    2017 midyear GS/GSA Model Update?

    Just looking for info - was there an update that occurred mid year in 2017 for the GS/GSA? I have seen people refer to a 2017.5 model. Can someone tell me what the switch over date of manufacturing was (mine was end of May 2017) and waht's different?

    2017.5 MY R1200GS Updates

    My understanding is that there were some changes made to the transmission that increased durability and reduced shift clunkiness. I don't recall in detail what those changes were but I do remember them being posted on other forums (www.advrider.com).

    I also believe there were some minor cosmetic changes as well. Nothing major but enough for guys to call some a 2017.5

    I have a 2017 GSA and Annie has a 2017 GS. Mine was manufactured about five months earlier than hers. Both have the upgraded transmission which I believe was common to all 17s. Her GS has hill start assist, mine does not. The suspension options displayed on her dash are different than mine. I have three pre load options that are shown as one helmet, one helmet and suitcase, or two helmets. Hers options are MIN, MAX, or AUTO. There may be other software differences that I am unaware of but I have never ridden her bike because it is too tall for me.

    Yes I have a 17.5 and that is how my display is also. Also Hill Assist.

    I think it is Dynamic ESA is what it on the 17.5. The selling point is it can adjust the suspension while rolling over a dime on the road. It is supposed to be that sensitive and responsive. It also intertwines with all riding modes including Enduro Pro.

    I am not sure if ASC was on the 17 or not? Pretty sure DTC was but I may have them mixed up.

    Also Black Switch-gear.

    I really wanted the 17 transmission and happened into a 17.5 Low GS and it adopted me. It was not for whatever really makes it a 17.5 but there really is a beast that is a 17.5 as i own one.

    And I love it! Unless I hit a lottery and a R18 follows me home, it is the bike I am going to die with. It is all that and a bag of chips, with salsa too!

    In the world of BMW, the changes which happen periodically to existing models is called LCI which means Life Cycle Impulse.     I thought the most notable change that came with he 17.5 GS was the introduction of the TFT display?

    Well the Dynamic ESA was a big deal but I think most would not notice it.

    The TFT is for sure a 17.5 difference, although it is not finite, as in my case, as I have analog gauges. However if you have a "17" with TFT and Dynamic Esa, Black Switches, and the bodywork (as minor as it is) differences that wold be a 17.5.

    Like I said I was not looking, and had no clue until after I bought it that I had a LCI

    It was kinda cool as I got it as a leftover 17 with .9% financing and some other incentives. I could not be happier with the bike. I loved my 15 RT, but I love this GS more.

    I also have a 2017 GSA and was told by the dealer that they could add Hill Assist to my bike with an upload of some sort into the bike for a nominal fee.

    I was told the same; for a cost of $250. Not an itch I need to scratch.

    Yep, the 17.5 does/can have TFT as I have said before.

    The biggie is Dynamic ESA, that you cant have on a 17.

    Dynamic ESA has been around for awhile. What Lee is referring to, starting in 2017.5, is the auto leveling feature of Dynamic ESA. I have a 2017 GS, no auto-leveling, no TFT, but it definitely has Dynamic ESA, ASC, and the improved transmission.
