Larger Tail Trunk On Mono Shock

Soon after buying the 95 RT, I became determined to install a larger truck. I quickly discovered the OEM trunk mount was poorly designed, and not capable of supporting even the original, tiny trunk. I finally found a Reynolds mount, a bolt on with no mods required, specifically for 85-95 mono shock Airheads. Next I found an aftermarket trunk, popular with Harley riders, but I also think looks OK on the RT. A little ingenuity to marry those two components, and I now finally have the larger trunk. 20210501_135806.jpg20210501_135730.jpg20210501_135815.jpg

    About 40 Liter Capacity

If the OEM trunk is supposedly 22L, then I estimate this one to be at least 40L. Also, the floor inside is flat, to accommodate cargo much more efficiently. A bonus, the lid opens from the rear, instead of from the front, as the OEM does. I have always found a functional tail trunk to be handier than a pocket on a shirt, and now finally have one on this Airhead.
Reynolds knew how to design a trunk mount that would actually function; it is mounted to the frame, instead of to the fiberglass seat frame, as the OEM was. The Reynolds is model R-430, for 85-95 mono shocks. It originally had a backrest, but I cut it off just above the cross bar, in order to properly mount the larger trunk. Just need a BMW logo for the trunk now!20210502_000634.jpg
