MOA Getaway - Kerville, Texas -- November 10-12, 2017

No affiliation with these spots, I just love the Texas Hill Country!
With these type places all around and Luckenbach nearby, you can't help but be a little more "Country" when you ride home!

Wineries and wine tasting have become big business in the Texas Hill Country. Now it's got Olive Oil tastings!
Yep, olive orchards is the heart of Texas.
The Texas Hill Country Olive Company does tours and tastings on Fridays and Saturdays.
Time: 11:00, 12:30 and 2:00
$6 per person
A 70 mile trip, from Kerrville go north on 16, east on 290. In Johnson city go right on 281 and almost an immediate right on 2766. 2766 goes to scenic Pedernales Falls State Park. (worth a visit itself) It starts as Robinson Rd, changes to Pedernales Falls Rd, and then Fitzhugh Rd, but it's the same road.
Sept - Nov is harvest time. You might be lucky and have a fresh olive oil tasting!

And...

North of Kerrville and west of Llano, about 80 miles one way, is the tiny town of Castell. Almost a ghost town, the Castell General Store has brought it back to life and established a genuine Hill Country destination.
The Castell General Store serves BBQ at lunch time and hamburgers in the evening. North on Scenic Hwy16 to Llano and west on 152, a little 2-lane Texas back road takes you there.
Oddly they are only open during BBQ time on Friday and Saturday ( 8am till Noon), so make that you first destination for the day and do your touristy wanderings on your way back to Kerrville.

I think the country song Beer, Bait and Ammo may have been written for this place!

Yeeha!

Just a reminder to everyone that the rally special room rate, $105 including breakfast, is only valid until Oct 12th. Book early to insure you get that rate.

And I'll try real hard not to eat all the BBQ before y'all get here.:eat

Newbies to the Texas Getaway... if you're traveling the infamous "3 Sisters" and looking for gas in the small town of Leakey (Lake-ee) don't panic if you don't see anything at the main intersection in town (I've had friends do this)
3/4 of a mile south on US83 is a really nice Stripes brand gas station (cross street FM1120). There's a Subway nearby if you need a sub sandwich to haul down to that scenic river crossing for a picnic lunch.

It's gettin' close to time. Can't wait!

Yeeha! :wave

Is it possible to just go for a day? I live two hours from Kerrville and if I get my airhead running by then, I'd love to head over. Never been to a rally, so about time I would say, but can't do the entire week-end....

Weekend Getaways are not your typical rally. It is just a hotel gathering for people to ride the area. During the day everyone is out riding except a couple of staff (i.e. me). All the action is at the receptions and dinner on Friday and Saturday night and those are limited to paid attendees.
But if you want to stop by the hotel just to chat we will be manning the registration table Friday afternoon and Saturday until about noon.
