Savanna 2 pants question

So I go to wash my Savanna 2 pants today and proceed to remove the armor and remove only the knee pads out of their pockets. When finished, my wife hung these inside out for drying so when I went to put the two knee pads back in, in noticed two more empty Velcro pockets on each side at the hips or a total of four empty pockets.

So what's the deal? Did these get pulled out at the store before I bought them? Am I supposed to buy some optional pads to fill these pockets?

I love these pants and think they're great only looks like something is missing.

That sure seems odd. That's like buying a car with optional seat belts.

Any idea where to buy the padding? I somehow think that BMW has moved on from the Savanna model though it's very possible the armor on the new stuff is the same and interchangeable with my Savanna.

Oh and thanks Statdawg for your support during such a terribly stressful problem. I now know who I can count on.
