49L Topcase Disassembly

I have a BMW 49L topcase on my 2006 RT. I want to install tail/brake/turn signal lights on the lower half of the case and run the wiring in the space between the outer shell and inner shell. Is it possible to disassemble the two? I tried removing all the screws on the inside and could sort of separate them, but stopped for fear severe damage.

Has anyone done that? Any advice?

Pete

I had to separate mine due to a latch issue. If you take pictures as you go along, it not too intimidating. This is what it looks like on the inside (not electrified). You also have to make sure the long silver rails are in the slots correctly. LINK

Is it hard to separate? Or is there some trick? I got it started but ran into a lot of resistance.
