I created and published this book last year as a gift to my dad and brother after our ride out west to the Oregon coast.

After this seasons bebop and zigzag of 25,000 miles around our wonderful country with 1,000+ pix do I do another book?

does anyone have any other ideas of compiling hundreds of images in a nice and enjoyable format?

I'm not opposed to another book, which could turn out to be a cool volume of books years down the road. Only thing is the books are a bit pricey, I got 11 books for $600.

No web, just print.

Thanks, h

No thoughts yet, but I think what you've got there is a pretty cool idea already.

I saw something similar in the waiting room of a BMW dealership while I was waiting for a repair. It was a hardcover book of someone's dual-sport group ride, and it had been assembled in iPhoto. The production quality was slick enough that I initially thought it was a BMW publication. Looking on the web right now, Apple's prices seem roughly comparable to what you paid for an 8.5x11 paperback ($20 for 20 pages, up to $75 for 100 pages). There's also a company called Blurb that partners with SmugMug. They seem to be cheaper than iPhoto ($50.95 for 160 8x10 pages on premium paper, even less if you don't mind their corporate logo on your book), but I don't have any direct exposure to their stuff.

I don't know if that gets you any further than you already are, but it's certainly given me something to think about for the rest of my day.

I think the $600.00 is worth the money. You have a piece of immortality there. I'd do it again if you have the cash!

Depending on who its for and their access to digital media, DVD slide shows are an option, DVD images don't fade, they can be displayed bigger (as in wide screen TV's etc) and thus can have a greater impact (dependant on quality of image certainly) and as we become a culture geared toward digital media most folks now have access to them/it, even portable devices.

So, depending on the tech savyness of the individual receivers its something to think about.
While books are certainly nice and have their own flair, a good Slideshow, with perhaps music, shows that just as much, if not more, thought and work went into bringing it to fruition. Is it, afterall, the (monetray) cost or the effort involved in the creation that really matters? If you can save on cost and produce a more dramatic presentation... well ......

Just excellent! I don't have any grand and new idea but I would commend you on money, time and creativity well spent. An intergenerational gift and tribute. - Bob
