Tree Root vs. BMW Case

I completely stripped the right side case off my F800 GS this weekend. I made a tight turn to line up for the up coming difficult turn. The next thing I know the case is on the ground.

I am glad I never leave home without extra Rok Straps. Now I think I can get it back into shape but the latch that holds it to the mount is almost unrecognizable. I had to put a strap through the end of the latch to pull it against the mount. Has anyone successfully repaired one of these this badly damaged?

I will be looking into soft bags but that might take a while. I will also post a picture of the latch.
 
I've straightened out some pretty good dents in mine, but nothing that severe. I had to replace a latch once also, but was lucky to pick up a used set off someone else's destroyed case. I used a hydraulic portable ram set up with lots of wood blocking to push out the dents in my case. That and a lot of hammering. They don't look so pretty anymore, but actually still seal well.
 
I had a TT Zega case take a bad hit and repaired it properly once I got home. It wasn't as bad as yours, but using a heat gun as well, carefully hammered everything back in shape.
Your case is no different except for the plastic bits. I'd invest in a rivet gun, small rivets and start by drilling out the spot welds so you can easily reshape the bottom and the box. Make sure that you use a drill bit that matches the rivets you'll use.
Apply some 3M double sided tape between the seams rivet it together and you''ll be fine.. YMMV
 
I think I will attempt to straighten it out while I look for a latch. Mosko Moto is looking pretty appealing right now.
