How cold was your commute this morning and what kept you warm

50's mostly. If it is colder, I sometimes wait until it warms up a little. I try to get there before lunchtime...wouldn't want to miss out on that.
I wear the BMW leather jacket and the Gerbing liner.

Chicago Commute

Still balmy here in Chicagoland. My 50 mile commute to the city was in temps from 54F to 56F from 5:30 AM to 6:45 AM. It's changing tho. When I left home this past sunday at 8:00 AM it was 36F.

Morning temps lately have dipped down to -4 or -5 C (around 24 F). That, combined with the snow and icy patches, I've decicided taking the truck to work is the wiser choice.

-2C today (28F) . FirstGear HT Overpants, FirstGear Magnum jacket, Scorpion helmet with a balaclava, a neck warmer, Olympia 4730 gloves and AlpineStar boots. Finger tips are cold, even with the heated handgrips but other than that, nice and toasty warm. I think my fingers would be OK if I had not suffered several cases of frost bite when I was much younger.

Took my little truck to work this past Friday for the above reasons. Whether to ride or drive is a first thing in the morning decision. So long as the roads have grip, I will ride. Forecast for tomorrow is looking pretty good. IF I get to ride (and I should be able to), it will be the first time I have ridden in November since 1983 when I lived in San Diego.

41 degrees. I wore my Kilamanjaro with the fleece liner, HT Overpants without the liner, Cheap-o cold weather Thinsulate gloves. If it gets any colder, I'll add a bacalava until it gets down around 30 or a chance for Black Ice. My fingertips freeze when it gets below 34 or so.

I rode for fun because it was sunny and really windy. Love to feel the RT stick to it in the wind. It was about 8c which I guess is around 46f. I had on my Belo (austrian) riding suit with rain and thermal liners. Rode in this all last winter (no snow, (sux for skiing but great for moto) and was never cold. Who cares about gloves with heated grips, I"m spoiled. I like reading about you cold weather warriors. I go back to CA next summer so I'll have to complete my Cold Weather Merit Badge with Gold Icicles this year.

Temp was 30 degrees F on my way in this morning.

What kept me warm?

Who said I was warm! I was cold.

Time to break out the electrical clothing.

BTW - I just picked up an Arai Profile, It looks like the one in Alan Cook's post. After my Nolan it is incredibly comfortable, quiet and light weight. But, warm it is not.

I feel the same way about my Arai Profile. It's super comfortable, but boy is it drafty, and the face shield fogs easily. Still, some of the best money I've spent. I wasn't sure about spending so much on a helmet, originally. Anyone want to buy a barely used size 'L' Caberg Solo (full face)?

Yesterday was embarrassingly easy at 57??. Today, not so much. It was 37?? when I left the house. No big deal for most of you, but I am far from an all-weather rider. Above 88??, I'd rather have a/c and below 50??, I usually 'bulk up'. So, with a 'new' 30-year-old Airhead replacing my old 11-y-o Honda cruiser, I thought I'd give it a try. After all, that big ol' fairing is part of why I switched bikes.

I have to be in a meeting later today, so a pair of khakis and a shirt & tie were mandatory. I decided to risk my ostrich skin western boots in spite of an annoying gas drip from my left carb. The old leather cruiser jacket with its Thermalite liner is just fine. Gloves are cheap leather ones with another Thermalite liner. Never wore this poly-something balaclava under a helmet before; only when blowing snow. But it fits and does a decent job. I wonder if my Nomex one would be better. The new Bell helmet needs the breath deflector I took out 2 months ago and left lying in my office. :banghead

I've been generating our remarkable string of good riding days here in Wisconsin with a bit of karma. When I park the bike at night, I run the carbs dry because they might not be refilled until spring. Of course, the weather does not like this, so it forces me to refill them almost daily. ;)

Heated seat and grips? What are those? I'm lucky the seat doesn't fall off, and my grips are rubber. Yes; my hands got a bit cold on my 10-mile, ~60-mph commute. So did the tops of my legs, my shoulders, and the back of my neck (I could have zipped up the jacket ...). Worst was gripping a 35?? tank of fuel with my knees. Second worst was not finding my sunglasses. Still, a day riding in November in Wisconsin is a notable thing for a fair weather rider like me. I may look for a 'warm' day to ride each month this winter - just to see if it can be done by the likes of me.

33??F this morning on my 32 mile ride on the GS. Roadcrafter 1-piece with old Darien jacket liner, ancient but efficient First Gear gauntlets, and grip heaters set on broil.

My office is about five or six steps from my bedroom, but I rode to get coffee this morning so as to be prepared for some meetings. Coffee makes everything better! It was 32F and no need yet for long john's. The best think? No Hardley poseurs at all!!!!

Regards,

Randy Kasal

Kushitani Dragon mesh jacket, light nylon M/C gloves and canvas pants. Other than the winds from the nor'easter we're having lately it's about perfect here, but i'll bet it gets colder in a week and the insulated leathers and gloves and boots will have to be broken out :wave

28 degrees at 7:30am. I wore my Kanetsu vest and had my grips on high.
I passed a guy on a unscreened Harley at an intersection turning onto the freeway wearing a leather jacket and a half helmet... that is a tough ride. I tip my helmet to him.
I usually make it to the week before Thanksgiving... then the ice comes. This year so far it's been a gift with all the warm days.

Getting to the 30s and 40s lately.
Olympia Phantom one piece suit (yup, I look just like the guy in the ads!!)
Jacket liner from my old Belstaf jacket.
(Will switch to Phantom liner when temps are lower)
TourMaster winter elite gloves.
Heated grips on my Rockster.
Aerostich Lite boots.

I thought it was going to be no colder than 35, this morning. Riding into work it felt colder, and there was frost on the grass, in places. Turns out it was 28 here, as well. I'm still wearing the same gear I was earlier in the week, though I really need to get some better gloves. If I was riding further I'd surely wear my BMW heated vest.

As for "no windscreen and a half helmet in the cold", I tip nothing to them. I have no respect for stupidity. :nyah

30 degrees F

Leather from the neck down.
Adventure gear neck gator.
Scorpion helmet with removeable wind block neck insert , not removed.
Elk skin long gauntlet gloves with poly pro liners.
Happy camper riding naked bike!

low 40's, 45 mile ride (I took the long way).

Tourmaster Winter Elites, Joe Rocket textile overpants, turtleneck under my Tourmaster Cortech GX-somethin' jacket (vents closed, but no liner), wool socks under the Oxtars. Didn't even need to turn the grips on, but would have wanted to dress a little warmer for a long interstate slog.

What REALLY kept me warm was the coffee in my Camelbak though... :coffee :thumb

Yesterday there was a cold snap in Big Bend Country and it fell to 32 degrees overnight. Since I'd promised a friend to help her clean out her garage, I rode my 91 K75S 50 miles to her house - with the only change from my usual riding gear being that I plugged in my new RED Gerbing jacket liner. Made me sMile all the way there.

Except for my fingers in the vented gloves. Oops. Wished I'd had hand guards too.

The 66 degree sunshine on the way home made it all worthwhile.

Don't miss my odark thirty ride to school like I used to do in Kansas at all!

Rode home the other night at midnight.
