Nav VI gone again!

And since I am mostly trying to navigate to Seattle or Duluth, and not some address in a recent subdivision called Meadow Mountain Acres or whatever, the fact that it doesn't have last week's most recent updated maps phases me not a bit. )

I agree. Four map and POI updates a year is overkill. Sometimes it's a couple years before some POIs are updated even if you do the quarterly updates.
I had to enter coordinates into my Nav for Cottonwood Pass before it would route me to the pass and over. This was a year or two after the road had been paved.
 
Well, since neither my K75s nor my G310GS, nor my Chevy Colorado have a Wonder Wheel, or anything "connect" I am perfectly happy with my Zumo 660 gps. And since I am mostly trying to navigate to Seattle or Duluth, and not some address in a recent subdivision called Meadow Mountain Acres or whatever, the fact that it doesn't have last week's most recent updated maps phases me not a bit. I can always take my iPhone out of my pocket and use Google maps for the details of that last mile or two. I also usually have an old Garmin II+ or 276C as a second GPS displaying a data table.

When on a trip I always have a map available. My routine is to stop at a rest area or welcome center and get a State map. If not I will cut the page out of the Rand McNally Atlas I buy new each year.

No system is perfect. One time a few years ago Voni and I were riding one of those delightful double letter roads in south-central Missouri. The road was generally going from east to west but was curvaceous and from time to time would be actually aligned south to north. So we pulled into a small town with a northerly heading. And after I missed the left hand turn in the middle of town I detected after a mile or two that we were angling back north east. I pulled over and signaled we needed a U turn. Arriving back in town I pulled over. Voni rides up beside me and utters words I shall never forget: "Two GPSs and a map and you still get lost." Yep! That was at that moment a fact. :)

I have a US Rand Mcnally always in the window of the tank bag. Keep RMc separate states maps in the top box for the states I'll be traveling through. Use the Nav4 and take a Nav5 as a backup on trips.

My Nav 4 hasn't been updated in years, I've not punched in an addy where it couldn't find it yet. I'm sure one day I'll find that to be true, then I'll break out the phone for google maps if need be.

You know, I used to always do that. But reading your post, it just occurred to me that on my "big" trip to the Pacific Northwest this past June, I didn't take any maps at all. It simply didn't occur to me. I'd loaded all the routes into my Nav VI using basecamp, and had a dedicated older iPhone 6+ mounted on the bar with the same routes loaded on it. I did have some trouble with the screen on the I Phone getting hard to read on some very hot days, but other than that, I rode 6000 miles+ without looking at a roadmap. And I have a drawer full of them.

On my last trip I used the Nav VI, and forgot the Rand McNally. At night I sometimes used the map program on my laptop to make some notes that I put in the top of the tank bag, but otherwise I just used the Nav VI. I guess I'm lucky, but the Nav VI has worked great since I got it back in '18.

Just adding my 2 cents.

I got my 4th replacement Nav VI in Jan 22.

Just got my 5th Nav VI on Nov 25th.... Then it took 6 tries to get Garmin eXpress to download new maps... :banghead

I hope it will work for at least another ten months into 2023. TBD.

Hope your OLATHE hardware works better than mine has. DOH! :brow

On toward December we go!

I had to LOL at the last few sentences Paul.. However having ridden those double lettered roads I must say that they are confusing indeed…
 
Goodbye Nav

For the 4th time both mine and my wife's Nav VI did the screen screw up.. Phoned Garmin got a $200 discount on two Zumo XT's. Chucked the Nav's in the trash. Used a 3DAM adapter, ordered on their web site and delivered from Itlay in 4 days. Easy install and works great. Done and dusted.

Same. The adapter from 3D Motorrad and the Zumo XT is the solution for me. On a pre-TFT RT the Oldtimers Sat Nav Lock (or Wunderlich's) still secures the GPS because the Zumo XT's release button isn't accessible when the Zumo is mounted.

How current are the Navi V's? I have one from my "gone" RT...
I could power it up and see how far out of date it is?

This version VI has just repeatedly pissed me off. When it works, it just picks a geographical feature, and stays there... No help from touching the map, it just stays there.. Now, that its charged up, it won't do anything! Push where to? and - nothing.. Turn it off, wait a few minutes, and ? nothing better...
Life shouldn't suck this much..

The Nav5's I bought for my brother and I in the last year were both updated before delivered to us.
 
Was told by a Garmin rep that they are committed to standing behind the NAV VI, meaning they will continue to replace them with little hassle, and expect to have the ghosting issue fixed by the end of 2023.
 
So, Kevin is Garmin still making the Nav VI? I've seen them on the shelf at the local dealer but they could be old.

Heard the same somewhere myself. Not interested in using the 6 until a year had gone by where they HAVE fixed the ghosting issues. On a trip, a Nav6 right now would seem to be taking a risk of being without gps and directions while 2K miles from home.

Replace them? Sure, can I have one overnighted to my motel? No? Then what good is replacing it at all. POS IMO, not something I'll entertain using. Thus the purchase of two 5's upgrading from the 4's.
 
The Nav V is a GPS from 2013.
The Nav VI has been around since 2017.

Though some are still running strong - in my case, a Nav V - that fact is, even spring chickens get tired in winter...

It might just be the time to move up to something more current. ¯\_(?)_/¯

Yeah and the check is in the mail. I am on my 5th Nav VI and they have been saying the issue is fixed since 2018.

Out for a ride yesterday and my Nav VI started doing un commanded actions AGAIN! Re booted several times - no change! Brought it into the house to warm up (+15C outside!) No change! My 4th Nav VI in 6 years! Have 6 other Garmin GPS's ranging in price from $100 to $800, some of which are much older and have not had any problems with any of them!:banghead:ca

Just buy a Zumo XT like I did and eliminate the aggravation !!!!!!
