BMW 3 Series Coup?® honoured by Canadian auto media

112460632-M.jpg

Whitby. The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) has named the new BMW 3 Series Coup?® 'Best New Sports Performance Car over $50,000.ÔÇÖ AJAC members recently conducted three days of intensive road and track testing of all new 2007 models in Canada, and it was during this testing that the new 300 horsepower twin turbo 335i Coup?® stood out in its category.
The new 3 Series Coup?® is now eligible for AJACÔÇÖs 2007 ÔÇÿCanadian Car of the Year,ÔÇÖ which will be announced at the Canadian International Autoshow in Toronto in February 2007.

AJAC member Bob English commenting on the 3 Series Coup?® in the Globe and Mail, stated, ÔÇ£The interior is light and airy and elegantly trimmed in leather and burl walnut. This is matched by a driving experience that is a true delight. The twin (tiny) turbo, 3.0-litre inline-six revs to 7,000 rpm, producing 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque and feeding it to the rear wheels via a surgically precise six-speed gearbox.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£This recognition from Canadian auto journalists is significant given the extremely thorough testing and scoring process that all of the vehicles go through,ÔÇØ stated Lindsay Duffield, President and CEO, BMW Group Canada. ÔÇ£The AJAC award provides consumers with a strong third-party endorsement and we are honoured to receive itÔÇØ, he added.

The award continues an impressive streak of AJAC honours for BMW products. In 2004, the BMW 5 Series Sedan was named AJACÔÇÖs ÔÇÿBest New Luxury CarÔÇÖ while BMW Active Steering took the award for ÔÇÿBest New Technology.ÔÇÖ In 2005, the BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle took top honours in the ÔÇÿBest New Sports Utility VehicleÔÇÖ category. And last year, the BMW 3 Series Sedan won ÔÇÿBest New Sports SedanÔÇÖ with the BMW 5 Series Touring named ÔÇÿBest New Luxury/Prestige Car.ÔÇÖ

The new BMW 3 Series Coup?® is offered in three variants in Canada. The BMW 328i Coup?® is powered by the latest version of BMWÔÇÖs lightweight 3.0 liter inline six-cylinder mangnesium/aluminum composite block engine, featuring Valvetronic variable valve-lift technology, with an output of 230 horspower and 200 ft-lb of torque. Equipped with the standard 6-speed manual transmission, the BMW 328i Coupe will sprint from 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds. The base MSRP of the BMW 328i Coup?® is $43,600.

The BMW 328xi Coup?® embodies all of the new features of the 328i Coup?® and introduces BMWÔÇÖs xDrive Intelligent all-wheel-drive system for the first time to the 3 Series Coup?® family ÔÇô also notably the first all-wheel drive variant in its segment. While providing the additional advantages of xDrive all-wheel drive, the BMW 328xi Coup?® maintains all of the dynamic handling characteristics of the BMW 328i, with the new 3.0 liter engine providing similarly brisk acceleration, achieving 0-100 in 7.1 seconds. The 328xi Coup?® with xDrive all-wheel drive has a base MSRP of $46,100.

The BMW 335i Coup?® features the world debut of a truly extraordinary power unit : the first inline six with twin turbochargers, high-precision direct fuel injection and an all-aluminum crankcase. With a maximum output of 300 horsepower and peak torque of 300 ft-lb, this torque figure available from 1,400 through 5,000 rpm, the 335i Coup?® provides a breathtaking delivery of power, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds. Featuring two small low-inertia turbos ÔÇô each feeding 3 cylinders, high-precision direct fuel injection and dual-VANOS variable valve timing, the new 335i Coup?® engine not only provides scintillating performance, but also optimizes fuel economy, with projected average fuel consumption of just 10.3 litres premium/100 kilometres. The BMW 335i Coup?® is available at Canadian BMW Retailers with a base MSRP of $51,600.

Time for MINI

112457263-L.jpg

The new MINI went on sale this weekend, and with the 2006 order book almost full, the dazzling new MINI cuckoo clock will produce smiles around the Christmas tree until more become available in 2007. The new MINI Collection range of gifts and accessories are headed up by an updated version of the massively popular MINI Cuckoo Clock.
Every hour, on the hour, a detailed 1:93 scale Chilli Red MINI sets off on a quick round trip, circling the stylish MINI-speedoesque clock face to the unmistakable sound of the MINI horn and engine.

Priced at ?ú69.95, the new timepiece is expected to race off the shelves at a rate similar to its predecessor, which has clocked up over 10,000 sales since the launch of the first generation MINI in 2001.

The MINI Collection features a range of accessories and clothing, including sunglasses, kids toys, luggage and even a picnic set. The MINI Cuckoo Clock, and other products from the MINI Collection are available from all MINI dealerships.

Bikes in the Fast Lane: LumaÔÇÖs Xmart- Smart lock revisedted.
Luma produced a disc brake safety lock that replaced you left foot peg. In use riding it was your foot peg and parked it could quickly be removed and used as a disc lock freeing space in your tankbag or topcase. In the past they only produced one for the left side leaving you an asymmetrical feel to the ride. Now they have come out with a version for the right side.

Motorcycle Repair and Care:

Under the heading of familiarity breeds contempt (or maybe sloppy work skills) David Hall writes a little piece on Using Tools. The second in the series he wrote for BMW Motorrad SA, he zeros in on feeler gauges and screwdrivers. Maybe not a big deal for most of us but has us take a minute to slow down to hurry up by using tools correctly.

Riding Skills:

Motorcycles in the Fast Lane: The DVD, Speed on Two Wheels is given a brief review in the blog. The DVD is purported to look at both the world of high speed bikes while also taking the viewer through the basics of counter steering, gyroscopic effects, tire behaviors and more.

Word of the Day:

fuse: [1] A protective device (usually enclosed in glass or plastic) which has a thin wire between two terminals. The wire will break or melt when the current draw exceeds the capacity of the fuse. In this way, the circuit is protected from overload. [2] The action of melting when a piece of metal turns to a liquid state and sometimes unites itself to a nearby component. [3] A failure of an electrical component because of a blown fuse. Also see continental-type fuse

Continental-type fuse: A ceramic fuse with conical end caps. They are color coded for different values.

Bike Candy:

Okay so this is not the most exciting piece of candy that you may have had in a while, but it is worth a look at. I gave you a link to gizmags article about the BMW neck brace, Here is a better image from the BMW press kit I found on the BWM PressClub Canada site.
