85 k100rt left turn signal indicator switch shorts 7.5a fuse

Intermittent problem started two years ago when the turn signal would stay on or turn on by itself and not turn off using the cancel button. After researching first removed the switch assembly from the handle bar and cleaned it with electrical contact cleaner. That seemed to provide a temporary fix and a reprieve from the symptom for a month or two and then it would re-occur. Found others reporting switch activating the signal indicator used WD40 and thought I'd give that a try. Again worked for a couple weeks. Now when switch is activated blows the 7.5A fuse. Cleaned switch assembly again with contact cleaner and reinstalled. Symptom: Use of left turn signal indicator switch will blow the 7.5A fuse until the cancel button is pressed.

All the other switches on the left handle bar assembly work accordingly(horn, flash headlight, highway headlight). Can use the right turn signal indicator as intended. The left running light in the left turn signal assembly works. The cancel indicator seems to function as designed. The switch assembly appears to be a sealed component.

Called to order the part from my favorite parts dealer and the parts guy said it likely wasn't the switch and that I likely had a short somewhere. I've removed the tank and traced the wires from the switch to the computer module and haven't found any exposed wires or shorts. Any advise to forward my perspective problem appreciated.
