2012 GSA - gadget power and location?

I'm on my third week with the brand new GSA. I'll roll over 1000 miles on tomorrow morning's commute.

I can't begin to figure out where to mount my GPS and how to get 12v to all the components I need to power when I'm touring.

The SAE plug at the top left runs my radar detector, which sits perfectly on a RAM mount system that is attached to the left side of the windscreen crossbar. That's taken care of - I think.

However, I can't for the life of me figure out where/how to mount my Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx. I bought and have the TT locking mount for my device (http://www.touratech-usa.com/Store/2264/PN-065-0077/Touratech-Locking-Mount-for-Garmin-60C-series), but I can't find a good place for the mount to attach to the bike. The cross bar on the windscreen doesn't work as a mounting location due to the GPS' antenna. The mount needs to sit approximately 2" back from the screen so it can tilt to the optimum viewing angle without touching the screen.

I really like the idea of a locking mount that keeps the GPS on the bike. I hate having to take all the electronics off the bike every time I duck in to a restaurant for a bite to eat. I suppose I can trade the locking mount in on a RAM non-locking system, but in a perfect world, there'd be an adapter that would connect the TT locking mount to the windscreen frame crossbar.

I also need to get power to the GPS. TT sells a CANbus-compatible power cord for my GPS unit (http://www.touratech-usa.com/Store/1759/PN-065-0282/CANbus-power-cable-GPS-60-76-176-V-SP-SPIII). The TT web page says my bike has a place where this cord plugs in to the CANbus. Where on the bike do I find this power tap?

Finally, I'd like to get power to my tankbag to charge my phone and iPod while on the road. Where have others tapped into the bike's wiring to get 12v for a tankbag, and how has the wiring been routed? I have the BMW GS tankbag, if that makes a difference. I have a cheap auto store 12v 3-plug adapter that works great on my RTP, but my RTP has three 12v outlets on the dash, and a hard-wired GPS power lead. How should I get power to my tankbag?

Sorry for asking so many questions in one thread - but this is the last hurdle for me in sorting the bike for touring and adventure :)
 
No one here rides a GSA and uses a GPS, radar detector, cell phone, and MP3 player?

I have a 2007 GSA with the following:

Garmin 478
Valentine Radar Detector
Baja Designs Soltek HID driving lamps
Auto Com

All of this is wired through a Fuzeblock -- Linky:http://www.fuzeblocks.com/

The GPS and detector are mounted on a cross bar that runs from left to right- mirror base to mirror base. Obtained it at the West Bend rally a few years ago.

The GPS is in a TT locking mount. XM antenna is located on a shelf unit purchased from the same vendor as the cross bar.

The lights are switched separately -- left and right

Auto com is located under the tail cover and Fuzeblock is located in the tool cradle under the seat.

I have also run a lead from the accessory plug under the seat to the tank bag for heated gear and the phone charger. The plug is wired directly to the battery, and an additional plug is located at the left front cut out at the winglet. By passes the Can Bus completely.

Purchased new, the bike now has 130k + miles and no issues with the electrics. The junk BMW batteries are a different story.

That CANbus power plug/ tap is under and behind the oil cooler. It's taped to the wiring harness there and has a protective cap over it. Untape the plug, remove the cap and plug into it. That power plug is switched on by the ignition switch and when you turn off the ignition switch there is a time delay on the plug turning off.

As far as powering my BMW tankbag, I bought the tankbag power kit from Powerlet. I also bought a couple of their BMW plug style outlets. One I mounted on the left fairing panel below the left handlebar. This outlet I use to power the tankbag. The other I mounted on the left side with a bracket near the factory CANbus outlet. Both of these I powered off the battery using Powerlet's termin8 kit which I placed in the tool tray.

The power tap is in the front under the instrument cluster (look at it from underneath near the fork legs & you'll see it), tie wrapped there. With the TT adaptor you can have switched power via can bus. I have the same setup with my Zumo on my gsa using that power take off.
 
I finally got the balls to really pull on the plug cover, and it eventually came off. I was afraid of damaging the plug or the wires leading into the plug. With a lot of pulling and a little bit of wiggling, the cover finally came off and exposed the plug.

From that point on, plugging the Garmin power cord in to the CANbus plug and routing and zip-tying the cord was a piece of cake.

It turns out the dealer didn't know that the TT locking mount for my GPS unit requires an adapter to attach it to the windscreen support cross bar. They banged up the mounting hardware trying to force it to work without the adapter. Once Touratech set me straight and pointed out I needed the adapter, my dealer stepped up and bought me a brand new TT GPS mount to replace what got mangled during their botched install - a $155 part.

I'll be exploring the tank bag power options listed above. A plug low on the dash would be perfect for plugging in a tank bag power kit.
