I ordered my Temporary Vehicle Import Permit online late Wednesday afternoon and it arrived via Fedex at 8:30 this morning!!!!!!!!!:dance
The website said 10 days max,so I was hopefully expecting it to arrive before I fly to Cancun next Tuesday. My bike is arriving the following Tuesday in Puerto Morelos,so that's done.
Now,about clearing customs at the port............ :banghead

I used Hyde Shipping

How did you ship your bike there? Hope you post about the trip :)

for just over $350 from Ft Lauderdale to Puerto Morelos, halfway between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen. The ship departs every Friday with a Tuesday arrival.
Their office is in Cancun and I'm paying in USD (go figure) at their office.
The bike must be crated was the only stipulation.

I'm moving to Merida next week and decided to ship the bike instead of ride it.
I did the FL-TX portion twice in the fall and didn't want to ride it again.
Now I can use that 8 days (FL to Merida) to enjoy my retirement and spend visiting the Yucatan as I planned.Or just do nothing-I'm RETIRED!

you and your BMW in Mx

If for any reason you want to leave your bike in Mexico (Canc??n, Veracruz, or anywhere else...) please let me know if I can help. I have plenty of friends.
Best regards.

Mexico insurance

BigDelta,
FYI, Ace Seguros de Mexico have special rates for Americans retired and living in Mexico. Last year I paid right at $500 USA dollars for my 05 R1200RT, full coverage with roadside service. Welcome to the great life and I don't think Jack LaLanne knew about Levitra or Viagra.

PS if you every come north to Nuevo Laredo, Tamps, let me know

How do you explain this? I don't get the kind of service from my local DMV. :scratch Congratulations. Hope the rest of your trip goes as well.

I tried in vain to reach you via e-mail several times the past 3 years without a response as I was interested in attending your National Rally.I am moving to Merida next week and my bike is being shipped to Puerto Morelos.
After 17 years,I'm no longer on a BMW but I do appreciate the generous offer nonetheless.
Ride safe.

Honestly Greg,I wish I knew a word for "beyond shocked"

My only experience with NL was back in '85 when a Porsche I owned was stolen from a fenced and locked hotel parking lot in Laredo.I flew back to San Antonio.
It was located by the insurance company 1 day before they were to cut a check.
I wanted the car but they said they couldn't get it just now! HUH?
They had 2 options-pay a ransom and recover it immediately or go through official channels and take......you get the picture.:bow
They paid, trailered the car back to San Antonio and had it repaired and repainted it.I sold it asap.
Thanks for the heads up about the insurance.
And if you find your way to Merida, drop me a line.
John

Arrived in Merida on April 2 with no water at the casa

problem solved flwg morning.Using Skype for int'l calls along with 11.6 million others online at this time. .021 per minute to States.
Bike ships from Ft Lauderdale today with arrival next week. Can't wait.
Life in the Yucatan is good!

Got the bike today!

Took the 6 a.m. bus (1st bus of day was 45 minutes late!) to Cancun and 4 hrs later I was at the station in centro.I walked 5 minutes to my shipper's office to pay for shipping and collect my Bill of Lading and title.5 minutes back to station and $1.75 for ticket to Puerto Morelos. Then $2.50 cab ride to front gate of Port.Handed over original B fo L and we went inside customs warehouse where my crate was waiting.I tipped the guys $20 to open the crate, put on my shield and helmet which were in the crate also, attached my plate and rode down the ramp for 1 final vin check w/the jefe of the Port and was on my way-total time-under an hour!
Totally painless and was back in Merida before sundown.
Shipping the bike was painless and I would recommend it to anyone wanting/needing to save time and $$$$$!:dance
