There are plenty of women working in the Formula One paddock, but Monisha Kaltenborn is the first to take on the job of team CEO. We spoke to her about her rise to prominence with Sauber, attending the 'boys' club' that is the team principals' meeting, and the unique qualities she believes women can bring to bear on Formula One

Team BMW Motorrad France drivers have been show to Ledenon this weekend!
[Translation by Bing]
29.06.2011

In trials, S?®bastien Gimbert still won the superpole with a 1'21 "980 track record or a second better than the best time he had done in 2010. Erwan Nigon finished second to the Superpole with an excellent time of 1'22 "508.Les two pilots of the BMW Motorrad France Team and the Michelin tyres have still demonstrated this weekend their potential and that of the S1000RR to dominate test and realize of chronos that other competitors are still unable to reach. In the first race marked by the long action of the safety car, S?®bastien finished second with the best time in third race and Erwan. The second race the two pilots of the Team BMW Motorrad France engaged in a great fight, S?®bastien finally won the victory followed by Erwan who signs the best time in the race after have done it much.

S?®bastien Gimbert: "Although we have come to test last winter on this tour we have on a new basis of settings reset because the conditions were not the same;" There was a lot of wind so we have of making a few changes. The two qualifying sessions lasted well I realize the best time of the two which well gave me leg to the superpole. I didn't think it was possible to improve with the wind but I went there and I sign the crossing the track record. I decided for the tests to work as the Vigeant with two machines and in a very short time with the technical team we have a super moto work me corresponds well and Michelin always brings us very efficient tyres which we earned this satisfactory result today. The start is very important here and I would especially not me to lock in the first turn as the Vigeant. Not too bad, I went to the first race I was just behind Erwan party in mind but with the second round, the fall of a competitor has resulted in the intervention of the safety because during 6 towers. It was difficult to resume a good pace on after long slow turns and it was also put tyres in proper temperature to new gas. I manage to double Erwan but I had in my Julien Da Costa wheel that put me the pressure. I was able to counter all these attacks but four rounds before the end he managed to head. I then decided to follow him and seeing that it was faster than me in the first part but not in the last two my strategy was to be an attack in the last round in the last partial but unfortunately the number indicated by the direction of race was false and the race stopped a tour earlier that what was announced I have therefore not been wear my attack as planned. I am delighted at the second race, I have a better start than this morning and I wanted to escape but I felt good that Erwan resisted. I am not forced to preserve my tyres and at the time where we ride past competitors Erwan passes me. I stayed behind him to analyze the or I was the better to prepare for an attack. We have caught up with other competitors and I took advantage to give a pressure kick showing my bike mudguards which rejected it and I passed. I had the chance to finish my tour correctly because with effortlessly was not at all clear that I retain the head. "I would like to thank me my team really good work and BMW France and Michelin high-performance equipment that we provide and my fans who encourage me this weekend."

Erwan Nigon: "the first two sessions free I used to get back in rhythm and establish baseline of settings because we had not driven since the Vigeant.". We immediately found good bases which could allow me to work for the race from the first qualifying session. This has paid since in race tyre I was the fastest of the session. This qualifying session put me in confidence to the superpole does not quite held as I had envisaged it. The chrono on my motorcycle indicated me incorrect time which has hindered me because I for?ºais but I saw not the chronos down and it is that when I returned to the stand that I discovered my true chrono. I am left a last run to try to regain the pole to S?®bastien and in the last round I realize two good first partial but in the third I could not demote a speed which made me lose any earned advance.

I went well in the first race I realized the holeshot and I kept the head of the race more than half but the intervention of the safety because during six tours allowed other prosecutors to pick us up and this long intervention really broke us the rhythm. Once the safety because party S?®bastien doubled and then four rounds before the end is Julien Da Costa double me. In this round I made a small slide which made me lose contact I wanted to force back in two towers it was doable but the error in the direction of race in the number of remaining Tower has not allowed me to achieve my goal. I am not party to the second race and it was left to S?®bastien free to escape. I lost a few tours in the catch up then I returned him six tenth in a tower and it allowed me the double then. I was at the top of escape but impossible it was such and heat intense ca began to drag. I knew that Sebastian would wear me an attack and I knew where to meet in the last round but I was locking up by competitors that we had caught up and I could not achieve my goal. Still, I am really satisfied with my technical team and Michelin which provides high-performance tyres and BMW France tuned for their confidence two years.

BMW Motorsport bids farewell to Mario Theissen

Over the years I dinged Mario Theissen more than once in various F1 thread rantings. The overall truth is BMW racing and F1 are better for having had him around. I hope you join me in wishing him the best as he takes his leave from the number 1 seat of BMW Motorsport.

The 2014 power unit will be a turbo V-6. Half a V-12 = half the fun? The issue F1 needs to face is not the power unit but the total emphasis on single hot lap speed at the expense of competition and passing. But then I am broke and these guys are million and billionaires.

New paint finishes for the BMW Motorrad model year 2012

BMW Motorrad presents two new special models. BMW R 1200 GS Adventure Triple Black and BMW F 800 GS Trophy

Due to the great success of the special model BMW R 1200 GS Triple Black launched in 2010, the corresponding special model of the travel enduro's popular "elder sibling" now follows at the request of large numbers of customers: the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure Triple Black. A range of details highlight the marked enduro character of the BMW F 800 GS Trophy. It has an exclusive paint finish in Alpine white and Desert blue in conjunction with special decor elements. Large hand protectors with attachment spoiler, an aluminium engine guard and a seat in Black/Rallye grey add touches of dynamic style

FWIW

The potential repeal of Michigan's helmet law may spark a thread or two on the forum. It is a point that divides many motorcyclist into opposing camps. What will be missed in the debates and myriad of statistics and reports is the what is the core issues for me; what were the causes that resulted in the need for a helmet in the first place and what can we do to avoid them.

Bike Candy

The guys down at the Official Fly-Over-Land coffee shop always sipped their Reindeer Antler coffee and talked about riding their iron horses. I have always thought of my Roadster as a bird of prey free to soar over the map and then dive in at something that catches our eye. I don't think this guy cares one way or the other about metaphors and would kick our collective butts if we got out of line anywhere on the Mongolian countryside and bothered either his horse or bird of prey.

Team BMW Motorrad Motorsport qualified provisionally on the second row for the eighth round of the FIM Superbike World Championship at Brno (CZE). Factory rider Leon Haslam (GBR) finished the first Qualifying Practice seventh after being in the top four for a long time. The team used the day to work on race preparation for Sunday. The two riders from the BMW Motorrad Italia SBK Team, Ayrton Badovini (ITA) and Lorenzo Lanzi (ITA), finished in tenth and 14th respectively.
*
Factory rider Troy Corser (AUS) is not able to compete due to the fractures he suffered at the last round at Arag??n (ESP), but is spending the weekend with the team at Brno. He is looking forward to racing again in the next round at Silverstone (GBR).

ÔÇ£Brno is one of the tracks I really enjoy riding at. The day was pretty good, and the weather was okay. We worked through quite a lot of chassis stuff. We are still struggling a little bit with the engine pushing in some corners, but we are working hard on solving that. At the moment we are seventh, so we have to improve a little bit, but it was a pretty good first day.ÔÇØ

Rainer B?ñumel (Head of Race Operations):
ÔÇ£The work is a bit difficult when you have only one rider, because you are able to collect only half the data. Today we concentrated on finding a good set-up for this circuit. In Brno this is quite tricky on a Friday, as the track has not a lot of grip yet, and this is quite extreme here. The grip just improves over the course of the weekend, so you always have to adjust the bike a little bit, but we are pretty happy. We are in seventh, and between P4 and P8 it is quite close. They are only separated by two tenths of a second. Now we will continue to work hard.ÔÇØ

BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team - Brno - Practice Day 1
08.07.2011

Two riders in provisional Superpole for the *BMW Motorrad Italy Superbike Team . Ayrton Badovini lies in the top ten, while James Toseland had to give in to his injury and Lorenzo Lanzi runs for the weekend. Barrier is second in Superstock, Zanetti fell after setting the sixth fastest time.

The BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike team made a positive debut on the track at Brno with Ayrton Badovini concluding the first day of qualifying in tenth position. The Italian rider worked on race pace but still managed to set times well up in the classification.

James Toseland*only took part in the first practice session this morning, covering 15 laps and finishing in eighteenth place. After discussions with the team James decided to postpone his return until the race at Silverstone (Great Britain) scheduled for July 31.

Springing into action for qualifying,* Lorenzo Lanzi *was able to quickly get settled on the bike, setting a time that puts him in fourteenth place, allowing him into Superpole on today's results.

In Superstock,* Sylvain Barrier*set the second fastest time, just over four tenths off the provisional pole position, and tomorrow will have another attack at taking first place on the grid.* Lorenzo Zanetti, however, while he was showing that he can lap with the front runners fell, finishing the session in sixth. Lorenzo sustained no serious injury - he is just badly bruised.

Serafino Foti,*sporting director of BMW Motorrad Superbike Team Italy said: "We have worked with Ayrton Badovini on the race set-up and we have not used a lot of tyres, trying to focus on the distance. Today we achieved our main goal of being on Superpole pace and tomorrow we should be able to improve again to be in the top ten.It wasn't all good though after James tried to ride this morning and unfortunately found that he wasn'tphysically fit enough yet. Together we decided to postpone his return to Silverstone. In the afternoon we put Lorenzo Lanzi on the bike, who came to Brno as a reserve. We are very pleased with his performance. Although he did not practice this morning he managed to set the 14th fastest time and there is still scope for improvement. As for the Superstock team, Sylvain was able to take the second fastest lap behind the Ducati and we have confidence for tomorrow's practice. Unfortunately Zanetti was the victim of a nasty fall at turn 11. Although he has not reported anything serious, it can take time for the effects to be felt. We'll see he reacts through the night and we all hope that tomorrow he is fit and can improve his time. "

A dismal day for BMW Mottorad Motorsport. Haslam was P5 in the early minutes of the first Superpole session then droped to P13 and did not advance. BMW Motorrad Italia's advanced safely into Superpole 2. At the 3 minute mark he headed to the pits after his last hot laps and looked ready to advance to Superpole 3 with a solid time. In the closing minutes he was piped for P8 and will start on row three in P9.

Badovini is in position to finish either race much better than he will start. Unfortunately for Haslam Team Enigma bikes showed up when the transport trailers were unloaded in the BMW Motorrad Motorspot Team paddock area.

Team BMW Motorrad Motorsport experienced a disappointing Saturday. Factory rider Leon Haslam (GBR) will start the eighth round of the 2011 FIM Superbike World Championship in Brno (CZE) from the fourth row. Leon finished the Superpole qualifying in 13th, missing the second Superpole session only by 0,047 seconds . His team mate Troy Corser (AUS) is with the team at Brno but is not racing in order to give his fractured left forearm time to heal.

Ayrton Badovini (ITA) from the BMW Motorrad Italia SBK Team will start with his BMW S 1000 RR from ninth. His team mate Lorenzo Lanzi (ITA) qualified 15th.

ÔÇ£As soon as we have rear grip on the bike we come across a lot of issues. The bike gets better the older the tyre gets, but with a new grippy tyre the issues start. The engine still accelerates into the corners, which on this circuit is quite difficult. The rear grip with the bike was really good with the qualifying tyre. I made a mistake on that lap with the engine push. So less than a tenth again and we are out. Our race pace is quite good, and this circuit is a bit wider and flowing, so we just need another good start and then we will try to get the best result we can.ÔÇØ
*
Rainer B?ñumel (Head of Race Operations):
ÔÇ£It was a disappointing day. This is our worst Superpole result for Brno, as we always started here from the first or second row. Leon reported some issues with the qualifying tyre. This tyre had more grip and we struggled getting into the corners. In the races we will now try to make the best out of our grid position.ÔÇØ

BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team - Brno - Superpole
09.07.2011

In the eighth round of the World Superbike Championship, BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team reached the third row with Ayrton Badovini, in ninth, and the fourth row with Lorenzo Lanzi in 15th. In the Superstock FIM Cup, Barrier is on the front row in third with Zanetti in seventh on row two.

Ayrton Badovinimissed the Superpole final by just one tenth of a second. He finished in ninth which gives him a third row start. The team and rider are feeling strong and positive after two successful days of testing at the Brno track.
Ayrton said: "I am very pleased with the progress and my bike following the two days on track. The weekend did not start well, but we were calm and, thanks to great team work, we got back to where we need to be. The engineers found a set-up on the second bike in practice that gives a good pace and we have chosen to use that for the race tomorrow. I was hoping to get into Superpole 3 but I didnÔÇÖt get the best from the rubber in Superpole two. I am pleased with the times set on race tyres. In warm up tomorrow morning we need to check and confirm the choices weÔÇÖve made for the race. "

Lorenzo Lanziwas happy that after three races on the S 1000 RR he has been able to get into Superpole, setting the fifteenth fastest time that means he starts from the fourth row.

Lorenzo Lanzi said: "TodayÔÇÖs work was generally positive and I have a good feel for the bike. I set the Superpole time on Friday, because the track was too hot today to lap faster. For tomorrow we can keep a good race pace and personally I would like to improve my previous result on the BMW S1000RR. It would have been useful to practice on Friday morning but regardless I continue to learn and get a better feel for the bike.

In Superstock, Sylvain Barrier will start from the front row, thanks to setting the third fastest time. Lorenzo Zanetti, however, was in severe pain from the after-effects of his crash in practice yesterday and couldnÔÇÖt better seventh place which puts him on the second row.

Serafino Foti, sporting director of BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team, said: "Today has been quite positive as both Superbike riders won Superpole slots. With Ayrton, we missed the SP3 because of a small error, however, this is a lesson learnt for the next races. We are optimistic for the race as Ayrton had a good pace in practice.
Lorenzo Lanzi has had a very good weekend despite a late start but he has done everything possible to claim his credible 14th position.
Unfortunately in Superstock, Lorenzo Zanetti suffered an accident yesterday, and was in poor shape so it has been very good to see him in action today! He now has another night to recover. We know that this will be a tough race for him and he will have to grit his teeth to the end. Sylvian, however, qualified well and has a good pace for the race tomorrow. It is crucial for both riders to get a good start."

The European GP podium finishers trade places but Red Bull controls the front row. Several post qualifying interview headlines emphasized not Webber's intention to win tomorrow's British GP but his desire to lead a lap now that he has won a pole. Weather may play a part in the race. Sebastian Vettel is the young rain meister of F1. The race to turn one and who exits turn three in the lead may well tell the tale of this GP.

Race 2

Race 2 looked very similar to Race 1. Biaggi took the lead with Milandri Checa and Laverty in tow but this time Fabrizio was tagging along. He pushed his Suzuki past Laverty's Yamaha for P4 on Lap 2 holding the position to the end.

Milandri looked to repeat the Race 1 script taking the lead from Biaggi on Lap 9 but this time Biaggi would take the lead back on Lap 13 and hold it to the end but not without having to fight to defend it.

Leon Haslam had another good start from P13 crossing the line in P9 after lap 1. Again his the race came to him and he worked his way up to finish in P7 dueling with Lascorz and his Kawasaki to the end.

Aryton Badovini had a better start to Race 2 but still dropped a position from P9 to P10 after the first lap. He picked up two spots on the next lap and kept pushing until he took P6 on lap 4. He lead the second pack of racers home in that position.

Championship Standings

Rider

Manufacturer

BMW remains in P4 of the Manufacture Standings. It added a couple points to its lead over Suzuki but Kawasaki is clearly making a strong push to start the second half of the season.

Haslam continues to hold P5 over Camier and Fabrizio but by a slim margin. Badovini is moving up and is in P9.

Formula 1

A damp track at the start of the British GP saw the cars off on intermdiate wet tires.

Webber lead the formation lap back to the starting grid and the red lights. When they went out his teammate Vettel won the race to turn 1 and began pulling slowly away. Webber was followed by Alonso and Massa.

Hamilton had a good start and moved up to P6 then by lap 3 passed Button for P5. Schumacher was the other strong starter moving up to P9 and pressing Kobayashi for P8.

The first bit of race strategy was the switch to dry tires. When to do it? Lap 4 and 5 Mercedes chattered with Schumacher wanting him to prepare to come in but he felt the track still to damp to do that.

Meanwhile Kovalinen pits with gearbox problems and is pushed into the garage. He retires from the race after only 4 laps.

By lap 7 Vettel had opened up a 5.8 second lead over Webber. Alonso, Massa and Hamilton were in contact behind him. Button was six seconds adrift of Hamilton and holding up a pack of cars behind him.

Lap 9 Vettel went purple once again. While he was opening up his lead to 8.5 seconds over Webber, Alonso was pressuring him from behind. Their gap down to 0.7 seconds and the Ferrari probing to find a place to pass.

Lap 10 Vettel went purple with a new fast lap which was quickly supplanted by one from Webber. The first round of pit stops would not be far behind.

Schumacher and Kobyashi make contact. The Sauber spins and the Mercedes will need a nose job ÔÇô paging the race Stewards.

Heidfeld is in the pits and the pit wall action is on.

Schumacher, having pushed Kobyashi out of the way went purple on lap 11 and then again on lap 13.

Webber is the first pit for Red Bull followed by Alonso.

Hamilton passes Massa for position then runs wide and the Brazilian retakes his spot.

Lap 14 Trulli's Lotus stopped out on the track.

With the first round of pit stops out of the way the points positions in order were:
Vettel, Webber, Alonso, Hamilton, Button, Massa, Di Resta, Sutil, Schumacher and Rosberg.

Lap 15 Hamilton took P3 from Alonso. Schumacher was given a stop and go penalty for his incident with Kobyashi. He was in P9 when the penalty was awarded. Kobayashi is under review by the stewards for a incident with Maldinado in the pits..

Lap 17 Schumacher pits to serve his penalty. He is shown in P8 when he goes into the pits and returns in P17. Stewards are giving stop and go penalties rather than drive through penalties due to the pit lane configuration at this track.

Maldinado and Kobyashi were dueling on track until the stewards hit the Sauber driver with a 10s stop and go for the pit incident. He pitted immediately to take his penalty and rejoin the frey.

The board keeps going purple as various drivers set new best lap times. This is normally a sign that the next round of pit stops will begin shortly but it is only lap 22.

Schumacher is fighting his way back. He passed Barrichello for P16 then on lap 24 took P15 from Petrov on a dive into turn 1.

Alonso took position from Hamilton who quickly dove into the pits for a new set of soft tyres. The second round of pit stops begins on lap 25.

Kobyashi pulled to the side of the track with smoke coming out of the rear of his car on this lap.

The leader board is a jumble as everyone pits for new tyres. The Force India pit is a jumble too! Di Resta pits but they were set up for Sutil and the scramble was on.

Vettel and Alonso pit together. The Red Bull team had problems with a rear wheel and he yields his lead to Alonso as a result. Alonso quickly sets a fast lap to open up a 2 second lead over Hamilton who is followed by Vettel a second behind in P3.

Buemi retires when his left rear wheel comes off.

Alonso continues to open a gap on Hamilton. The Brit is defending P2 from Vettel who is pressing hard. Vettel's radio cackles with his handlers urging patients. He must get past Hamilton to stay in contact with Alonso who keeps widening the by going purple. The trick is getting past the McLaren in one piece.

The top 10 after the second round of pit stops are
Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel Webber, Button Massa, Perez, Rosberg, Sutil Petrov.

Lap 34 Schumacher is shown in P12 now and pressuring Heidfeld for P11.

Vettel continues to pressure Hamilton but he can not get past him. Alonso's gap at this point over the dueling pair is now up to 9.4 seconds.

Lap 36 Vettel pits after some serious fighting with Hamilton. He takes another set of softs and rejoins in P6. Hamilton follows him into the pits on the next lap; a set of softs and he rejoins behind Vettel. It's one way for Vettel to pass.

Webber heads into the pits on lap 39. Vettel goes purple but is shown 24.4 seconds behind the leader Alonso as he does it. With that gap Alonso heads to the pits for a new pair of shoes in preparation of defending his lead from the field. He gets away cleanly and returns to the lead.

Button pitted at the same time as Alonso. He was in and out in 3.9 seconds but his right front wheel was not fitted properly. He pulled over at the end of pit lane and his race is over. Adding insult to injury on lap 43 it was announced he is under investigation by the Stewards for an unsafe pit release.

Out on the track Alonso is in P1 with Vettel 10.3 seconds behind him. The best way to deal with that is a new fast lap on lap 41 opening up the lead to 12.6 seconds.

Lap 42 Hamilton is told by his pits he needs to conserve fuel if he is going to make it to the end of the race. He is under pressure from Webber at this point.

Webber continues to probe Hamilton for a weakness. The gap is down to 0.4 seconds. Hamilton must defend while listening to his handlers reminding him to conserve fuel. On lap 46 Webber zooms him in the DRS zone and takes P3. While this is happening the Ferrari pits are giving Massa an ear full urging him to close in on Hamilton and pressure him because of the low fuel load. Massa was 9.8 seconds behind Hamilton at this point. By lap 50 it was down to 4.3 seconds then 1.7 seconds.

The top ten are a mix of cars that have made three stops and a couple that have only done two. Perez and Rosberg have been mixing it up on old tyres and both run wide.

Alonso takes the first victory of the season for Ferrari. Vettel struggles to hold off his team mate and comes home in P2 16.5 seconds behind Alonso.

The top 10

1 Alonso
2 Vettel
3 Webber
4 Hamilton
5 Massa
6 Rosberg
7 Perez
8 Heidfeld
9 Schumacher
10Alguersuari

This is provisional. Hamilton and Massa had contact on turn 16. No news if the Stewards will act.

It has been racing while all this has been going on. The weather has cleared around Lock and Dam No.1. Time to go out and play.

Team BMW Motorrad Motorsport completed the eighth round of the 2011 FIM Superbike World Championship at Brno (CZE) with two solid races. Factory rider, Leon Haslam (GBR), had a good points haul, finishing eighth and seventh respectively. With this Leon improved one position in the riders’ championship. His team mate, Troy Corser (AUS), did not compete this weekend due to his fractured left arm. Nevertheless he was with the team at Brno. Troy will be back in action at the next round in Silverstone (GBR).
*
In race one, Leon had a good start from 13th on the grid and improved to eighth during the first lap. At the halfway stage he fell back a few places, but during the final laps he was able fight to his way back up, crossing the line in eighth. At the start of the second race Leon improved to ninth. Then he had some good battles and was able to pass a couple of riders, and was seventh after eight laps. In the closing stages of the race, Leon had an intense battle with Joan Lascorz for this seventh position, with Leon coming out on top.
*
Leon is now fifth in the riders’ championship with 137 points, Troy lies in 15th (55 points). In the manufacturers’ standings BMW is fourth with 173 points. Ayrton Badovini (ITA) of the BMW Motorrad Italia SBK Team finished both heats in sixth, while his team mate, Lorenzo Lanzi (ITA), was 17th and 13th respectively. The races were won by Marco Melandri and Max Biaggi.
*
In the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup race BMW riders where once more successful, with four BMW S 1000 RRs finishing in the top six. Sylvain Barrier (FRA) from the BMW Motorrad Italia Superstock Team celebrated his first victory in the series. His team mate, Lorenzo Zanetti (ITA), also stood on the podium, finishing third. Markus Reiterberger (GER) from the Garnier Alpha Racing Team scored his best ever result in the series. He finished fourth after starting from the front row for the first time. Fabio Massei (ITA) from Team Piellemoto completed the top six.
*
Leon Haslam:
Result Race 1: 8th / Gap to 1st: 00:21.399 min / Fastest Lap Race 1: 2:01.064 min
Result Race 2: 7th / Gap to 1st: 00:21.650 min / Fastest Lap Race 2: 2:00.941 min
“In today’s first race I had a good start. With new, grippy tyres I was struggling a little bit with my pace, so some other riders were able to pass me. But when the grip went away I did not go any slower - but they did, so I caught up again. That was a good battle and I passed three guys during the last few laps, which was exciting. In race two I was held up a little bit so Ayrton, who was in sixth, could get away. But then I had a really good battle with Lascorz in the last two laps. They were two pretty hard races for eighth and seventh. Of course this is not where we want to finish, but we kind of understand what the issue is and know what direction to take now. I am pretty happy with the progress we made and I hope we can make up the difference at my next home race at Silverstone.”
*
Rainer B?ñumel (Head of Race Operations):
“We made the best out of our starting position. Actually, the results were even better than we expected from 13th on the grid. Leon had two solid races to improve in the riders’ championship by one position, so this was a satisfying end to this weekend. But, of course, we know that we still have work to do. We have a lot of ideas that, in any case, we will implement for the next race weekend at Silverstone. We want to congratulate Sylvain Barrier on his first victory on the BMW S 1000 RR in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup.”

BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team - Brno – Race
10.07.2011
Positive weekend for the BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team at Brno (Czech Republic), which has won two sixth places with Ayrton Badovini, reaching eighth place in the Championship standings. Lorenzo Lanzi was thirteenth in race 2 and benefits from two points. Sylvain Barrier won in Superstock, with Lorenzo Zanetti finishing third in the race and taking second place in the FIM Cup.

Ayrton Badovini in race 1 had to work hard to move up from the 13th place he held at the end of the first lap, moving up to sixth place, thanks to a fantastic series of passes. In race 2, by virtue of a good start, he was fighting with the top riders and by the halfway point had worked his way to sixth position, which he held to the finish.

Ayrton said: "We managed to finish the weekend with two sixth places and, objectively, I think this is the best that we could realistically achieve. The result is important because it moves us up two positions in the standings. My confidence with the bike is growing and I am increasingly at ease in dealing with the competitors on track at this level, which for me represents a significant development from the beginning of the season. "

Lorenzo Lanzi, meanwhile, finished race 1 in seventeenth position, while in race 2 took thirteenth, winning two more World Championship points.

Sylvain Barrier claimed a great win in Superstock, managing to win a duel with Davide Giugliano (Ducati), maintaining his fourth place in the FIM Cup. *Lorenzo Zanetti now lies second in the standings thanks to his third place today which is almost a miracle considering his serious bruising from Friday's fall. The two riders from the BMW Motorrad Italia Superstock team battled for podium positions for almost the entire race with the leader of the FIM Cup, Davide Giugliano, who with the German Raiterberger also riding a BMW S1000RR, alternated the lead. Sylvian, with great determination, took the lead for himself three laps from the end, claiming the top step.

Sylvain Barriersaid: " I’m happy with the bike, and I am very happy with the team which *worked so hard to prepare for the race. I have to thank them because they allowed me to focus and take this important result: my first win in Superstock in this season. The race was a real battle, but I enjoyed it. After the halfway point I had less grip from the rear tyre but in some ways it was useful to understand how to handle the acceleration and control the loss of traction. I am very happy to take my first win of the season. "

Lorenzo Zanetti said: "After Friday's fall I was not sure of being able to ride but I managed to start. Halfway through the race I thought I would give in but I held firm to get to the end. I had a good race and this is an important result, mainly from the perspective of the championship. The third place puts me second in the standings but there’s still a long way to go in the Championship."

Serafino Foti, sporting director of BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team, said: "We had a good weekend and won some important points, thanks to Ayrton ‘s double-sixth. We made a step forward and now we are close to the best. From now on, the team, bike and riders will improve, but we look forward with optimism and continue to work hard. I want to congratulate Ayrton who handled the weekend very well.Lorenzo Lanzi managed to win more World Championship points and is constantly improving his race pace. I want to thank him for agreeing to being at Brno as a reserve rider and having been extremely helpful. .As for Superstock, Sylvian, after battling with Giugliano, picked up his first career win with a great performance. Finally Zanetti rode a "heroic" race given his injuries, and was on the podium as well as taking second place in the FIM Cup. "

Andrea Buzzoni, Director of BMW Motorrad Italia, said: "It was a perfect weekend because we brought home the best result possible in every race. In Superstock, Barrier scored his first victory having fought and won a race with clear determination. Zanetti was stoic under physical adversity but kept battling and won third place, which was important for the Championship. Ayrton was flawless in both race 1 and race 2, and two sixth places is an excellent result. He rides with authority and self assurance. *The pace of the top five was beyond our reach. The eighth place in championship shows the strength of the Superbike team bond and that they are motivated and professional, just as the Superstock team are."

exhibitmag.com: BMW K1300 R review
A thumbnail review by an Indian site echos cost issues heard in the US but the independent Indian importer of BMWs to India is taking major bumps beyond what the tax markup would suggest when comparing costs to other countries. The result is a bottom line thumbs up for the bike but a pass on price.

BMW Group sales reach an all time high for the month of June

Motorcycles: Highest first half-year figures in history
In June, a total of 11,831 (prev. yr. 11,584 / +2.1%) vehicles were delivered to customers.
In the first half-year of 2011, BMW Motorrad sold 60,580 (prev. yr. 57,015) vehicles - more than ever in a first half-year. This represents a retail growth of 6.3 % from the first half of 2010. In a challenging environment in the market segment greater 500 cm3, BMW Motorrad was still able to reach an excellent sales result in the first half-year and remains consistently on a growth path. The demand for BMW motorcycles is very high across all models. The Boxer model range still registers the highest sales volume by far. With 1,255 units, sales of the K 1600 Super-Tourer with 6-cylinder engine which was introduced in Spring 2011 exceeded expectations. Husqvarna Motorcycles delivered 3,530 Motorcycles year-to-date (prev. yr. 4,659 / -24.2%), including 450 in June.*

BMW Group raises sales and earnings outlook for 2011
TOP
12.07.2011
Performance in current year better than expected
Automotive segment EBIT margin expected to exceed 10%
Sales volume of over 1.6 million vehicles targeted
Financial Services segment on target for sharp rise in earnings
*
Munich.*Thanks to strong demand on the international auto markets during the second quarter and for the full year, the BMW Group now expects that business performance and earnings will be significantly better than previously forecast. It is therefore raising its sales volume and earnings forecast for the current financial year.
*
It is now forecast that unit sales in 2011 will increase above 10% compared to the previous year to over 1.6 million BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand cars. The forecast for the year had previously been for a sales volume of over 1.5 million units. The number of vehicles handed over to customers worldwide during the first half of 2011 increased by 19.7% to 833,366 units. The BMW Group continues to aim to achieve a reasonable balance in sales volume between Europe, Asia and the Americas.
*
In view of the strong performance to date and the good outlook for the coming months, the Automotive segment is now expected to achieve an EBIT margin of over 10% for the full year, compared to the previous forecast of over 8%. The BMW Group continues to target a return on capital employed (RoCE) in excess of 26%.
*
Sales volume and earnings growth in the automotive segment is likely to be dampened during the second half of the year by changes affecting some of the BMW GroupÔÇÖs high-volume models as well as by the market launch and production start-up of successor models.
*
As a result of attractive market conditions and a less acute risk situation, the Financial Services segment continues to aim to achieve a significant improvement in pre-tax profit and a return on equity of over 18% in 2011. The sharp improvement in the risk profile for residual values and credit risks will be reflected in second-quarter earnings with a positive low three-digit million euro amount.
*
Based on the considerably improved outlook, the BMW Group now expects to achieve an even greater improvement in pre-tax earnings than originally predicted.
*
All of these targets are based on the assumption that economic and political conditions remain stable and that the global economy continues to grow.
*
The BMW Group continues to target an EBIT margin of between 8% and 10% and a return on capital employed (RoCE) in excess of 26% for its automotive segment in 2012. The Financial Services segment is striving to achieve a return on equity of at least 18%

Every day is Mustard Day in my kitchen but according to the gang at [url=http://mustardmuseum.commercev3.com/lettercast/b_lc.php?c=iaiue-I-EI]mustardmuseum.com
: August 6 is National Mustard Day!

BMW sales continue to grow despite economic concerns around Europe and the world. The ACEM report showed the European market down as a whole and major sales markets for certain BMW models such as Spain with double digit declines. The Indian press seems to like the BMW line that has made its entrance to that market but does not like the mark ups the importer selected by BMW is taking.

BMW is a niche brand. It has carefully targeted certain markets and developed specific product and pricing strategies within those niches. Their continued success at numbers counter to industry norms impresses but the sceptic in me continues to wait for the other shoe to fall.
