Seattle Police Department Gears Up

Next up? Change the hardware under the Motor Officer!

(Did I say that out loud?)

Great article - I hope it serves as an example for other motor units around the Country.

Seattle is cool enough to be able to run attgat like that. Good deal for them. As far as the bike is concerned, the best possible situation would be for Kawasaki to make PD bikes like they used to. I doubt that's going to happen though.

Those are abnormally high temps, average is a lot lower and even in the summer only last for a month or so. The rest of the year is nice and cool and cloudy :nyah

You are right. It Sucks here. Do Not Move Here. It is the worst place to ride. Ugh.

WSP has been riding ATGATT for several years now. At least the ones i've seen. AND they ride the RTP. SPD Went from the KZ to the Hardley purely for the "cool" factor. Same with the Pierce Co. Sheriff.

CA Highway Patrol is going to Concourses starting next year. Just spoke with a former motor officer now working from a cage the other day (we were having a roadside chat involving a performance award - D'oh!). He confirmed the rumor and wasn't very happy about it.

CHP changing their ride?

I was told that the CHP actually gives their motor officers the choice of which bike they ride. It's not a mandatory "this is the bike you'll ride - period". The primary reason that CHP began riding the BMW RT was the ABS, not offered on the Harley Davidson until 2007(?).

Many Police Departments allow the LEOs to choose from a variety of bikes. For instance, in the city I work in (Salinas, CA) the PD motor officer are riding BMW RTPs, Honda ST 1300s and Harley Davidsons. I haven't spoken to any of the LEOs about their choice in the matter but presume that the officer has a choice in the motorcycle he is assigned to ride.
