All Rally Locations By State

the research on this shows that the majority of members will only travel 500 miles or less to a rally.

Again w/ the Research... Whose research?
What was the error margin algorithm?
What is the ratio of twistie roads vs. straight?

Seriously though... I wonder why some were repeats?

Every State has something cool to see...
One can never get enough of that Corn Palace! :ha

Repeats happened at what were superior facilities. And at least once happened because a deal fell through at the relative last minute.

As for statistics, anybody who really wants to know can look at attendance by state for the last several rallies. If you want to refine the statistics then standardize by MOA memberhip by state. I'm not sure that the 500 mile number is precise, but do know that predominantly easterners go to eastern rallies, westerners go to western rallies, midwesterners sometimes will go either direction, and some of us go wherever it is. Voni has not missed one since 1984. I missed Moodus due to a job change and ZERO vacation days right about then.

It is not the absent that concern me very much. In the past 25 years I have heard almost every conceivable excuse why persons said they were not coming to a specific rally or rally site. It is the safety and convenience of those who come that are my priorities.

Two henways to one.

a few reasons i can think of:

- great facility
- great destination
- we have foreknowledge of logistics
- affordable price
- the beer deal is pre-done

One can never get enough of that Corn Palace! :ha

oh man, i sure can. :nod

...And at least once happened because a deal fell through at the relative last minute.

That was my personal summation...

The rest of that post was a Joke pointed at Ian.
Not being privy to much of the information one can only surmise.

=Anyway=
Personally, I'm not the rallier type.
When I lived in NY I only went to Americade twice since 1983.
Crowds don't do it for me.

I went to Redmond because I could. And I wanted to say I've been to one. And to meet some folks...
It's an impressive feat.

I agree w/ Paul's assessment on distance. I'd ride to a rally to participate in the seminars and shows... Not to ride the local roads. Probably as I'm spoiled where i live.

I seriously thought of PA but decided 4-5 days of road to spend 3-4 days and then repeat the ride turned me off. Not the ride. The Gas Prices.

I'll wait and see where '13 happens. And I'll tell ya... If it ain't in an hour range of the North Cascades yer really doing the membership a disservice. (heh heh)

Let's just keep filling up this map!

Well, as a long time South Dakota resident recently moved to Nebraska, I can tell you that the closest the MOA national ever got to the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD was in 1990 at Rapid City, SD. That rally was my first MOA national and I lived in Williamsburg, VA at the time. The site got a lot of negitive comments pre-rally. Thankfully, there was no forum at that time or it might have had the same problems as Gillette did. Hot temps and bone dry dusty grounds were expected. What we had was a brief light rain every day which kept the dust down and temps less than expected. It was delightful. We never know what the weather will bring.

Diversity.
It's what makes our Country great.
Me? I research where I'm going.

Now that you mention it, seems like I saw a map before. with the amount of Wisconsin riders in the Mileage Contest list every year, it may be the center.

Speaking of lies, damned lies, and statistics...
Perhaps those putting in the most miles are doing so to get AWAY from their home regions.

BTW, I would volunteer to housesit for riding privileges in Wisconsin. :whistle

Pretty cool posting! Thanks!

Now, having just returned from 5 days in beautiful Colorado, let's get more blue markers west of the Mississippi.

This Wisconsinite needs to see more of the wide-open West!! :dance

Praying the 2013 National is in WA State. Home of the American Alps.
