Adaptive Headlight Issue

I am a new member and here is my problem; I purchased a 2012 1600 GTL with about 25000 miles on it in October of 2015. As most of you know the 1600 is not perfect and I have started adding my personal touches to get it right for me, i.e., an after market windshield, highway bars, etc. Within about a week after I got the bike I had a caution light come indicating that the adaptive headlight was not functioning; not that the headlight itself was the issue, it was the movement part of the light. I had the code read by my local shop and they said that it only indicated that it had read a default in the system, not what caused it. I just got back from a 6,000 mile ride from Northern Nevada to Pennsylvania and back. On that trip, the default light started coming with more frequency to the point where, by the time I got back to Nevada it would come on more than it would be off. I took it to the shop and they said the entire assembly needs to be replaced for about $1600 plus labor ($165). I started looking around for parts and resources and found that some of the items associated with the assembly are being sold on e-bay such as the electronic control module, the actuating servos, etc. When I asked the shop service manager about just changing the items that were bad he stated that it comes as an entire assembly and the pieces can not be separated.

In the past I have had good experiences with e-bay items so my question to anyone out there is; has anyone had any issues with their adaptive headlight and what did they do about it?

Welcome to the forum Robo!
I don't have experience with this but if you hang in a bit, chances are someone will be along with some words of wisdom.
Good luck.
