Hi guys, last week I found a beautiful 1978 R80/7 on craiglist, I went with my father to take a look at it and we end up coming home with her. It´s a one owner bike with 33K miles on the clock and in really good conditions. For me it is was the first time a ride on an airhead, I never though that is going to be so fun to ride a bike that is older than me.

I´m just hoping to learn a lot more about this bike on this forum, and hopefully meet and ride with some of you.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the world of Airheads! The 800cc bikes are probably some of the smoothest around. Looks like you have a good specimen there. The only thing I notice is the flat-top carbs which can be a little finicky to set up...but doable. Not sure what range of bikes these were put on...my September build '78 R100/7 has the "normal" carb tops. Just a couple of things:

- check the link in my signature line for links to other BMW related websites
- find out month-year of build by looking at some of the links at the top of the sig line link
- bookmark Snowbum's website for tons of Airhead info: http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/technical-articles-list.htm

Another Airhead! Welcome to the asylum! Owning an Airhead is a sickness for which there is no cure. Plus they're a great bunch of folks.

Welcome. Your new bike looks really clean and pretty. There is a good bunch of Airheads in FL. Kevin Remer (sp?)is the Airmarshall. They have a winter tech day and other events. Seems to be an active group.

Thank you guys! I will try to upload more pictures soon, I just need to wash the bike first.

Regarding the carburetors, they were recently adjusted. I also got almost brand new tires and battery. I purchased the bike from a guy who works on airheads at the back of his house near Ft. Mayers, FL, he wasn't the owner, but he was doing some minor adjustments and maintenance to the bike. He seemed to know a lot about the bike and airheads in general. Really nice guy btw.

I just can't be any more happier with the bike.
