    Rear fender R65

Will a 82-84 R100 rear fender fit a 82 R65 ? I saw a mod of a cut down stock R65 fender I liked...not wanting to carve up the original stock fender...and a post of a R100 fender for sale...I realize the R80 has a longer wheel base than the 82 R65 and that got me thinking...just getting into the airheads and am not familiar with the interchangeability of the parts... any comments will be appreciated...Tinkertoy

I checked the wheelbase...the R100 is 65mm longer. But I checked the part numbers for the rear mudguard (fender)...it's the same 46621240397 (also the same for the /6). Amazing...I would have thought it wouldn't fit. This is for the R65...the R65LS is different.

It's same fender for all /5s as well. They just added a couple of tubular spacers (item # 11) to set the fender back from the frame crossbar for LWBs. Don't know if this was the permanent fix. How's your /7 set up Kurt?

    "slash" fender vs. r65 fender.

Note the difference in how much the vertical surface at the rear stands out. Extra mounting holes as well. Can't say for sure, but the rear tire is probably easier to remove with this configuration.

    Lew -

I'd never looked at it before...but there's some kind of bracket that extends aft a bit and the two holes in the fender are attached to it. The battery tray sits on top of this bracket...I haven't been able to find a picture of it on the fiche.
