Going to WV

OK, so I'm holed up in Paducah, KY, so tired of riding my motorcycle that I'm thinking a nice Buick would be a good idea.

Nonetheless, here's how my trip has been so far. I'll put some more pictures up over the next couple of days. I managed to get a SS1K on Saturday by riding from San Rafael, CA to Carbondale, CO. Yesterday, I rode across Kansas in those wonderful (not!) cross winds they have in such abundance.

I woke up hella early on Saturday, 4AM and beat it out of Marin, log book in hand and route plugged into my brain. No GPS for this boy, nosirree...

I wound up at Donner Pass as the sun was coming up.

An hour later, I was on the far side of Reno and the scenery was noticeably different.

Outside of Eureka, NV, I met this nice officer. He used a Kband instant on oncoming signal to invite me to a little roadside chat. He clocked me at 92 in a 55. He let me take his picture anyway.

After a while, I got to Utah. There's a casino/watering hole right on the border, so I stopped, gassed up and peed and lost an hour without doing a damn thing wrong.

I love Utah.

My favorite sticker placement by Angry Youth of America of the whole trip:

I got to Carbondale, CO when it was dark. The next morning, this is what I saw from the parking lot:

Yesterday was Kansas. I hate riding in Kansas. I stayed off the interstate.

I really hate riding in Kansas. I only got as far as Salina before I was really tired of what I'm sure is a wonderful state.

Today, I rode to Paducah and didn't really take any pictures. Missouri is almost as boring as Kansas to ride across, but seems less aggravating for some reason.

Now, I'm certain that there are all kinds of folks that are going to send me mail and tell me that there are awesome roads in both of those states, and I'm certain there are. However, when I'm in get there mode, both of those states make me nuts.

More photos soon. I hope.

ROAD DOG!!!

Dave,

ROAD MODE!!! Gotta love it! Were you anywhere near Route 36 in Kansas? A GREAT way to cross the State! Missouri is my choice for the friendliest State I have ever been in!

See you in WV!!

Dave,
I'm sorry I did not call while we were in California, but to many cool roads and never enough time. We enjoyed our trip and plan on coming out there again soon. I hope you are having a safe trip and if you need a place to crash on the way home just call. Ride safe and don't drink to much of that corn juice..........P apple

Yo Pineapple!

Pineapple,

What up? Are you going to be in WV? Stop by YB Central at some point.

I was heading south, so 36 was a pretty fair detour. I took 24 where it branches off of 70 and then dropped down and into Salina.

I'm in Knoxville, staying with Steve and Becky Hancock. Tomorrow, we ride Deal's Gap and then on Thursday we kick it to the rally!!

2800 miles on, so far.

Dave,

I thought that might be the case. Sounds good! See you in Charleston! I will be arriving sometime Thursday.

See you guys there. I am outta here after work.

All packed ready to sleep on a plane, so I don't have to ride the plains:D

Off to work......

See U tomorrow...

In Ktown?

Yo, KBasa

email me. I'm here in Ktown. Perhaps we can hook up for a cup of coffee. If nothing else make the Hancocks take you to the Time Warp Tea Room on Central. (It's a really cool vintage motorcycle themed coffee shop) You won't regret it.

My ridin partner and I aren't leaving till Friday evening but I'd like talk to you about your route to Charleston.

Thanks for the pic, you made my day

Phil
Knoxville

So, I'm in Knoxville now. Steve and I left the RS in the garage and took his SV and VFR out for a little putt putt around the Cherahola Skyway and Deal's Gap. We only had to pass two cars and traffic was light.

Apparently, K1200RSs have been to Deal's Gap, some more successfully than others.

And yep, Steve took me to the Time Warp:

I have no idea which way we're going to the rally. Rich Gardner has a route mapped out and the Hancocks and I are tagging along with them.

Dave, I'm thrilled they took you to the Time Warp. You have great guides there! I hope you got a kick out of Dan, Jack and the "Kids". (Looked like Sean and his brother were the cats at the counter) They've come to mean a lot to me in the past year.

Thats my favorite place to hide in the world. (Did you notice the Z50 hiding under the big table in the back?) It's a shame you didn't make it last night for the "meeting". Believe or not there's a pretty strong Italian and British bike community here.

From the looks of things you did the Dragon on to Robbensville/Cherohala then out through Tellico Plains. (What no BBQ at Cardin's Landing?)

Here are some shot's from the Hoot and the vintage show they had at the Time Warp recently.

If your still in town tonite gimme a holler.

The Tea Room was totally cool. They had The Price is Right on the big screen in the back and one of the kids was passed out in a recliner. Too funny.

We played the Evel Kneive pinball machine and Steve kicked my behind. If you ever get out to SF, I'll have to take you to Zeitgeist. It's a slightly grungier version of the Time Warp and they sell beer and full bar. Lots of beer.....

I think we're going to have some dinner tonight and then beat it back here to get packed up to leave, otherwise I would have loved to have gotten together.

Gonna see MrsK tomorrow! :clap

I compleatly understand. Judging by the photos you folks got up before the farmers.

Hopefully I'll fun into you folks in Charleston on Saturday. (unless you're going on one of the day rides)

Yes, I hope to get out to the left coast soon. My seeester lives in Palo Alto and I've got a drummer pal that lives in Marin. I have a pipedream of going up the Pacific coast Highway on two wheels.

Once again I'm thrilled that K'town seems to be a bit more hospitable than Kansas.

You folks be careful out there.

P.S. Tell your pals to come to the timewarp on Tuesdays.

WV Bound.........Not

Yo Dave,
Greetings from Cheeseland both of the Apples are unable to make the the 2003 Sled Dog Touring Team Reunion. I can't believe you got the OA to have there Rally in conjunction with our private gathering. The roads will probably be littered with BMWOA refuge so ride safe. I'm glad to see you have Steve and his Cuz to keep you on the right side of the law. Be sure to tell all the Homeys we say Yo and lift a cold one when you all get together. If you need a place to hide out in Milwaukee just ask and I'll leave the front door open and fill the Confederate with 110 octane so you can burn around town in style. I think I'm coming out to the Left Coast soon and if it happens I'll look you up. Have a great vacation and continue with those great updates.
Later..........Pineapple :fart :fart :fart
