Walking back to his mates, one of the riders was heard to say, "But I've got all the best farkles that website said to install. My bike is supposed to be awesome off road!"

I'm thinking that the lead bike went down and the following riders were too close, target fixated and grabbed the front brakes to join their fellow riders in the horizontal plane. I saw three Harley's do the same thing in a really easy curve one evening. First guy ran off the road into a field, and the two others followed in a nice row to end up on top of each other. No injuries except to bikes and pride.
Or the bikes were tired from the hill climb and simply needed a short rest stop.
