'86 R80RT gas cap won't come off

Howdy,

My 86 R80RT gas cap broke. I was screwing on my gas cap after fueling & I heard a pop/snap sound. Now I can't remove the cap. My guess is the threaded portion separated from the top. How do I get the cap off? Anyone ever had this happen. I'm considering drilling 2 holes, inserting sheet metal screws & trying to unscrew it with a long screwdriver.

Awesome, I tried to search the forums and failed, that info is just what I was looking for. I had the same basic idea, I just needed more detail on how the cap was constructed. Thanks for the quick responses!
