cam chain tensioners

Cam Chain Tensioner

I replaced the OEM tensioner with the updated model which got rid of the noise >100K miles ago. I recently started the bike up while on the lift on a cold morning and I was hearing the tapping noise. Shall I assume that this is a wear item that needs to be replaced?

Have not heard of these failing. IMO no.

Thanks Reto........I was sitting on the stool with the bike raised so the cylinder was close to my face so maybe it was the valves.

The TB shafts have already been replaced with Dan Cata's product but thanks.

Have you checked the rocker(s) end play lately?

Another possibility is a loose pushrod end, your mileage corresponds to the possibility.
If it's a pushrod, you can replace with good used (pm me - I'll send you some for the postage cost)
Or even better the updated 1200 solid steel ones. (a bit expensive unless you can salvage from a wrecked engine) 11 31 7 688 631 VALVE PUSHROD - D=10
