Anyone else here dealing with arthritis ? It keeps shortening my 'seat-time' making travel much less enjoyable. Have any of you ever tried acupuncture for treatment ?

Not having much luck with Chiropractic care, and am trying to avoid pain meds. Even Aleve , Advil & such can reek havoc in soft tissue [particularly the liver] and would really like to refrain from use for as long as possible. And for sure hope to avoid Ever needing the scary prescription drugs !

Just thought I'd ask....TIA!

I also have a fair amount of arthritis, but unlike you, chiropractic care works well for me. I go about once a month for "maintenance", but this is after several years of more frequent adjustments. I take a relatively small dose of Celebrex daily also. And yes, I get an annual physical exam and blood tests to monitor the possible damage Celebrex might be doing to my body--so far the doc says I am doing fine. Getting old is not easy.

Several years ago I also was going for regular acupuncture treatments but it got too inconvenient--the doc I was using was almost an hour away and I got tired of riding there and back, especially in bad weather or in the winter. However, the acupuncture seemed to work OK for me. I now find that regular chiropractic care works just as well.

back pain

Many years ago I had a problem with my lower back. The chiropractor I went to was able to put the curve back into the spine. After we were done with the adjustments, he told me to do an exercise that would strengthen my muscles next to the stomach. This helps to support the ribcage and take pressure off of my lower back. I think the exercise is called crunches. You lie on your back on the floor. pick your shoulders up off the floor and hold it for a bit, then back down. Next pick up one shoulder in a crossing manor and hold it, then down. The other shoulder in a crossing manor. It is not a sit up. Three reps of these. It has helped over the years. No drugs and no money, I hope it helps. Frank P.S. I should have asked where the pain is back, hands, shoulders, etc. before I answered.

I have some arthritis, too. Here is another thing you can try. It works for me. A "joint health" supplement that has chondritin and MSM. Before I started taking it, I asked my doctor and he says they have been proven to be of benefit in clinical testing. It takes time to build up, but it helps to create more natural lube for the joints. Every supermarket with a vitamin section sells these supplements and they are cheap. Give it a shot!

Thanks for all replies so far. Most of mine is in low-back / hips and shoulders-neck.....so far! Hope it doesn't spread .:brow

I am doing the stretching / strength exercises. As well as riding an Air-Dyne bike with upper body / arm pump...reportedly light resistance prolonged repetition exercise is said to help ?......we'll see.

I am taking Glucosamine-Chondroitin but I just started and I do understand it takes time to take effect.

Hope it does by spring....:thumb

Oh yeah, it'll work. Takes a couple of weeks or so. Not dramatic, but incremental. Still good.

It depends a lot what kind of arthritis you have and you have to have that checked thoroughly. A chiropractor is not the right person to talk to. I have been fighting pain when riding for the last 3 years, went to chiropractors, reumathologists and finally to an arthritis specialist who diagnosed a bon-on-bone condition due to what you would call hip dysplasia in a dog. On the way there I took all these wonder treatments like Insta-Flex, Osteo Bi-Flex, liquid Glucosamine etc for joint pain and nothing really worked. The only solution was a hip replacement, which I just had and am recovering from as I write this.
Find a good arthritis clinic or an orthopedic surgeon to tell you what your options are.

There is certainly no substitute for good orthopedic care. I hope that with your new parts we will be seeing you out on the road!

For some of us with that "cinder block scraping cinder block" sensation, the glucosamine/chondritin supplements can provide some relief.

The brain is more powerful than any drug.

All of the suggestions have merit. For me, really bad hands and a shoulder that is toast.

I believe Chiropractic works, I believe Acupuncture works and I believe my Q-Ray works.

I have found other things help my hands and I just don't use my shoulder the way I once did.

My brain is really the key because I can't tell you if anything I do really works except, it works for me.

" Q-Ray works." ?

For me, I have what is called Anklyosing Spondilitis. A form of arthritis that starts in the lowest lumbar and travels on up to the top of the cervical spine. It calcifies and stiffens the spine and radiates into all of one's appendages as it works it's way up the spine. Started back in the 70's and is just about finishing up in C3 and 4.........

So, yes have done the pain pills with addiction to percodan and the like, the aspirin type stuff that tears a hole in the gut, the various wonder drugs that have fantastic side effects to overcome with even more drugs, and now the wonder drug Humera..........Actually if one can overlook the bruising splotches, allergies that I never had before, minor cuts becoming infected, minor cuts and abrasions taking forever to heal, and trying to stay away from my grandaughter who is the joy of my existance during school cold and flu season.........then it actually does make a difference in the daily aches and pains...........Can we say a 6 or 7 rather than a 9 or 10?????

Find yourself a really good internest/rheumy and just understand that it is what it is.......Yes, pain is ALL in the head. If you let it win, it will. For me though, I am the winner........that is another subject all together.......

Yes, my riding days are pretty much over for the LONG miles once done......lol.....MY best riding nowadays is done with my Merc 320 SLK.......God bless......Dennis

" Q-Ray works." ?

Works for me and my girlfriend and a lot of my friends. Perhaps its just our perception.

As to "Anklyosing Spondilitis", holy crap. I had a friend that got it in his thirties, a basket case by the time he was forty. That is scary.

Take care of yourself DennisDarrow. Very few men can walk in your shoes.

I was in a serious car crash when I was 18. Constant lower back issues since then. I will try the crunches for strengthening mentioned above. About three years ago I developed pain in my hands.
I was then gven some Zija Moringa to try. After 3 weeks all pain in my hands were gone. Yes still have intermittent pain in my back, needs more flexibility, which I am working on.

Anyway the Moringa worked so well for me on that and provided other benefits, I became a distributor.

I suggest you consult with an MD of Chiropractic Medicine. You find such an individual usually associated with a major clinic or medical center - not the garden-variety of 'adjusters' that you will trip over on every third block in any city in America.

Also, the home exercises he/she will prescribe have merit - particularly if it involves a large ball.

As for meds, your concern is warranted - damage to kidneys and liver from excessive use of OTC drugs a real problem these days.

Good luck and hope you keep riding! :thumb

What isQ-Ray ?

It's a funky bracelet.

What isQ-Ray ?

You wear it on your wrist. Supposedly, the two magnets are supposed to align with the meridian of your body's magnetic field on your wrist and bring your magnetic field back in align.

Mine was a gift and it's rather nice looking.

I can say, if I forget to wear it, I perceive my hands and shoulder are in worse shape. That may be a mind/matter thing going on with no actual real value. Whatever it is, I wear it and I feel better.

You gotta give marketing hype credit for making some people believe in the dumbest crap you ever saw, like the "slap-chop".

Doing my Arthritis research I did come across magnetic therapy , I just can't get my mind around the fact that a magnet affects soft tissue, bone etc....inside the body? I don't just dismiss anything I don't understand, or have direct knowledge of,.. but I do question....

BTW ya got me again...what is 'slap-chop' ?

OK......the simple version.........Our bodies are composed of atoms. Those atoms are positively or negatively charged. The atmosphere, the air around us, is composed of atoms which are also positively and negatively charged.............

Sooooo........let's say out of the Arctic comes a mass of air, that mass has been bombarded with all kinds of ionic types of atoms, electrons, neutrons, quarks, and on and on........SO.......That mass becomes positively charged due to the particular type of "particles" that the sun has sent our way........
YOU are sitting here reading this with the atmosphere having settled with a let's say positive charge. Your body and all around have adapted to this charge.......NOW.........Here comes that weather out of the Arctic...........What happens when simple magnets are fooled with. We have all done that......Imagine what your body goes through as it adapts itself to this current bunch of electrons, neutrons, protons, etc bombarding it with the "weather front" from the arctic coming through.........

That is about as simple as this ol' guy with arthritis can make it. Yes, one can easily predict, snow, rain, tornados, fog, etc. by what is hurting, how it's hurting, aching, tingling, and the type of pain level in various parts of the body.

Now the bracelets and paraphanalia. YES they work and no they don't. A cure-all? NO.........But a copper bracelet that I got in Viet Nam from a "Yard" elder at a friendship ceremony, yes, that works to help with my shoulder, wrists, and fingers............A story bracelet that I "earned" from an old Navajo fella at Chinle, Az does help with my hips and my "spirits" in general........

Like I said in an earlier post on this subject, a lot of this is IN ONE'S HEAD...........But actually, what isn't........The "spirits", God, electrons, or just faith can and really do create miracles............God bless........Dennis

C'mon, the "slap-chop'? Really, it's fantastic, I'm a dealer!!

BTW ya got me again...what is 'slap-chop' ?

It's a gizmo that you put your onions, tomatoes, peppers or whatever on the counter. You place the 'slap-chop' over top and two "slaps" later, you have perfectly and evenly cut salsa.

You can only use them once because they really need about fifty chops at which time you have half your onion is stuck in the gizmo and the other half is mush, then it's broken.

Because you broke it by using it excessively the wrong way, no warranty. Hence, you have to buy another one to see if it really does do what the TV says it can do.

I can make you a deal, if you buy a case of them from me, I will sell them to you for $19.95 plus taxes, shipping and handling*. That's a savings of over $20.00 per "slap-chop" sold individually plus taxes, shipping and handling*.

*Taxes, shipping and handling costs may vary.

I prefer you send me your credit card number and I will bill you appropriately. I promise.

Not to get off track, it could be a Q-Ray, copper bracelet, a folk charm or green coffee bean extract, if it works for you, take it and run because if you think about it too hard, you might just realize that your body is way older than your brain wants you to be.

I got a deal going on the "Baconater", perfect bacon every time...................*

*Taxes, shipping and handling costs may vary.
