I assume the pix were taken somewhere in Montana? I ran into the same situation a few years back around Tensleep, Wyoming. Herd seemed bigger than yours, and road was pretty messy after they moved along. And the smell was ... interesting.
 
Yes Montana. I estimate the herd was about 300-400 head, spread out along about 2 miles of road. It's called the smell of money in these parts.
