Any known ignition switch issues on 80's R80?

Thanks Kurt and Anton. Given the cost of these things new :huh and BMW's no parts policy on that ignition switch it's a good thing we can dive into them ourselves and effect basic repairs and maintenance. Some very good disassembly write ups in Kurt's resources list.

I'm pretty confident my issue is most likely one of lack of lubrication so it should be easy enough to fix it up. An Airhead riding buddy over on Vancouver Island has a red smoke '82 RS almost identical to mine and interestingly his ignition trigger just failed last month. He sent it to the fellow in Colorado listed on Snobum's site with excellent results. Always good to have a backup plan.

The weather turned beautiful up here over the weekend so I've been out riding it. Riding up past Whistler and up into the mountains at the end of October is a rare opportunity not to be missed.

Part Arrived

found a source for the Hall effect sensor, funny thing is, since I have ordered the part, the bike has not cut off. I plan on replacing the part when I am done riding for the winter, currently is raining a lot, but still riding. Snow or ice will officially end my riding here in Germany till March/AprilDSCN2708 (800x600).jpg
