LF: Driving Lights and/or HID Headlight for R100 GS

HID will save you about 10 watts over the 55/60 halogens. I also like the color much better if you go with daylight 4300k. Another consideration is that they sell halogen H4 bulbs with 55 watt low beam and 100 watt bright. If you do this, you really should install a relay kit so as not to melt the wiring harness. Check out Eastern Beaver dot com for info on H4 relay kits.

For bright LEDs, everyone uses Cree LED assemblies -- no sense paying a fortune from one final assembler over another. Denali is high priced, ADV Monster and others are not, although the business end of the lights is the same.

And also similar bulbs with lower high beam wattage...80W. I never installed one back then (the 90s) not knowing how the added heat may affect the light assembly, which is small on a GS. I guess I could go with a 55/80W and give it a try. They are cheap enough. It'll give me a chance to wipe down the inside of the headlight lens which is slightly hazy after 22 years.

When you say "bright enough", do you mean for oncoming traffic to see you or do you mean they light up the road some distance away far more than the stock headlight. I am looking for the latter?

Those along with the Ztechnic mounts may just be it. I have to check out possible mounting clearance issues where the oil cooler is located.

See ebay ad for the same light model as I bought(mine are black all over & less $) which has the beam "penetration distance waaaaay out there"(if you believe the diagram:scratch) 500meters is down the road ,eh?:) item #400547042519

So I went with the MondoMotos MM10 Bullet LED Auxiliary Light Kit (V3)...

I still need to get the mounts and I'll likely go with the ZTechnik Z6020...

PIAA & Warn both sell nice compact aux. light mountings that are designed for round bars. Less $$$ than Touratech. I may go that route, am undecided.
I just took delivery from Hong Kong via ebay on a pair of LED lights that are 10w, have top of the line Cree xm led's and are 25deg spot beam lenses. They have a nice black alu housing in bullet shape with a SS "u" bracket & fasteners. I hooked them up temporarily to see if they were functional & with the lights off in my shop they are bright enough for $69.80 total price & to make for a safer MC. Wiki on Cree xm led's is entertaining & says they come from NC. Do you suppose the Chinese order them from us in USA? :ear
A vendor ( www.mondomotos.com ) on the F650 site is selling @ discounted price (there in vendors section to chaingang folks) there with their name on them for a bit more as a package with wiring, instructions, etc..
I'm using the PIAA relay (small) & a PIAA switch which is small, has a practical red/green led indicator, pushbutton & mounts with sticky backing nicely to a bike.
Per above thinking I want my lights mounted below the blinker-what about a mounting that goes around the lower fork tubes?:ear My G650GS lower measures 1.93" Several sell/fabricate a light bar that fits horizontally on the front fender fasteners.

I used the cheap Cree 10 w sealed units, using both the PIAA CNC mounting brackets and PIAA wiring harness....the total cost from amazon was less than $150 and has worked fine. Mounted on the GS roo bar.... I run them daytime for visibility and at night they make a huge difference over the OEM headlight...20150927_123750-1.jpg ps...took a break from ATGATT for the Distinguished Gentleman's ride...not my usual riding attire! and paid the price with a bee sting to the cheek when a yellow jacket lodged in my chin strap....
