Have a group coming from Colorado up thru Reno Nevada. Any recommendations from your OR folks on good route north (twisty, not faster). Looking at US 395 to OR 31 then up to Bend. Thoughts, recommendations?

Yeah, what Eugene said. Sounds like you're aware of the Reno/Lakeview/Bend route, not a lot of twisties, but better IMHO then Klamath/97. More open, less car traffic allows for a somewhat more spirited pace! Spending anytime around Reno at all, or just passing thru? I'm originally from Fallon, so know the roads around the Sierras fairly well...

And there are soooooooo many bugs around Klamath Falls, Klamath Lake and Klamath Marsh just looking for a windshield!

After moving to the Northwet in the 80's, I was amazed at the relative lack of bugs. That high desert country, especially around irrigated farm land is just BUGGY!

If you're tired of desert by the time you get to Reno, you might want to consider Reno to Susanville, then west on 36 ALL the way to 101 and the redwoods at Fortuna - then up the coast. Hiway 36 west of Red Bluff is considered by some to be the best motorcycle road in California.

395 certainly not real twisty. 31 is a nice route if you do decide to go that way. If you and your riding party have been baking in the sun for a while, the coast part of the route will feel chilly. It is a nice way to see a little of the Pacific Ocean. It is not too bad to look at if you have never seen it or it has been a while?

Thanks for the ideas. We do have windshields and full face helmets so bugs beware. Had not given much thought to those winged dudes, we can't afford bugs in Colorado so they are never much of a concern.
Probably won't spend much riding time in Reno except tp pass through.

Indeed! Hwy 36 from Red Bluff to Fortuna is like a roller coaster ride. While a different trip, traveling the Lost Coast out of Ferndale is like being in another country.

+1 on that! 36 from Red Bluff out to Fortuna is one of the best ride in NorCal bar none. For the more adventurous try NF1 from Mad River up to the 299. Paved, narrow and very twisty.
