Anyone here from Athens GA?

We're considering relocating to Athens and would appreciate any "inside" information we can get. What areas are growing and what areas should one avoid when buying a house? Are there any local hike/bike trails near residential areas? Where is the major traffic congestion and trouble spots? Are there any local BMW clubs and mountain bike clubs? Or any other info you'd like to share.

Athens is a very vibrant college city, and a short sprint to the North Georgia mountains, Cherohala, Tail of the Dragon etc., for some of the best riding in the Southeast.

BMW Motorcycle Club of Georgia is active: www.bmwmoga.org. If you want a taste of the rides in the area and the club, check out their Georgia Mountain Rally this May 3rd though 5th. Details GMR.

There must be some Georgia Bulldogs fans who can chip in with nuances about the city.

Local airhead guru Nathan Mende's business Boxerworks boxerworks-service.com is located in Watkinsville on the southeast side of the city. Might be worth catching up with him.

Thanks Mark! We'll be out next week to do a recon of the area. Kind of doubtful that everything will be in place in time for the GMR this year but will definitely put it on the calendar for next year. That whole north GA, east TN, west NC looks like heaven. As for the dirt bikes, I've been poking around on the internet, and from what I've seen there's plenty of dual sport and ATV trails, but not finding a lot of single track.
