1977 Airhead Mufflers

I know that this topic has come up before but it is time for a new look at the subject
It appears that I shall have to replace the 38mm mufflers on my R75/7. Externally they look pretty good, with rust holes starting on the bottom.
Internally the baffles have been punctured by the PO.They are not loud but only have so much life left in them after 36 years of use.
I would like to replace them with something that looks original , is QUIET, but won`t break the bank.
Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Staintune

Stain tune out of Australia makes a great replacement. But will break the bank.

If you have time do some eBay searching might be some good deals.
:deal

Motobinns in England sells stock looking mufflers made by Sito just a bit louder than stock.

I have them on my 1977 R100RS very pleased!

WOW !! Amazon

EMGO makes a replica muffler. Check around for prices. This is for one side. You get what you pay for. I never tried them. I went with SS Keihan mufflers when they were less then $200 a pair.

Amazon has everything!!! I thinks Amazon has the store of the future. Actually bought "GUN" parts through Amazon last week.

Is it ok to use the "G" word on this site???:blush

I bought a set from Omars last year to replace my 20+ year old MACs: http://www.rearsets.info/mufflers.html. If memory serves, they are EMGOs. I like them fine... about the same as the MACs. I like the sound- not loud or raspy. Not the greatest chrome on the welds, but not bad. Easy install and comes with the bushing for the 38mm pipes.

One heads-up: they do not come with the clamp. My old clamps were extra tired- I priced new ones from Bob's, but ended up getting a couple of stainless t-bar hose clamps for about $2 each from Northern Tool near my house.
