Engine crash guards for R1200R

I am starting to plan out my spring accessory buying for my '07 1200R, and I have been thinking about some crash guards for the engine. I know that there are a few manufacturers out there, but which one is better (not cheaper; I would rather pay more to have guards that I don't need to re-engineer). All suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

The Wunderluch bars are well engineered, easy to install. However, the cost of crash bars is greater than the cost of the cylinder head covers that they protect. If you go down on pavement hard enough to damage more than the covers, with or without bars, you will have bigger problems than your bars will protect you from. I suggest that, unless you ride on dirt a lot, or want to use crash bars to support lights or foot pegs, save the weight and lost ground clearance, to say nothing of the cost, of crash bars and go naked.

There have been a couple of times I have almost dropped my new R1200R in the short 2 months I got to ride it before winter. Both times I was stopped and trying to maneuver on uneven ground.

The guards seem like a good idea to me. I'm 6'2" but not that strong anymore and I feel that someday I'm going to drop it now that I am a geezer at 68.:gerg

It would be good to hear some other opinions.

I also thought about guard when I bought my 2012 R1200R but did not because of cost. 2 weeks later I dropped it in gravel at 0mph it is scratched up but not hurt otherwise, I will likely not do anything about it ,but it would only cost about $225 to buy new valve cover. So I will probably never add guards

I can't use crash bars, I would be grinding them down and can't lose the clearance, so after breaking the plastic BMW guards I went to these Machine Heart Moto ones and am happy.
I've clipped a simi trucks foot step while on the highway, they help up and did their job. My GF dropped my bike a few times, no damage.
Good you're looking for just valve cover protection.

Finally made a decision

Thanks to everyone who posted an opinion. I did think about the valve cover guards, but I spend a lot of time on dirt and gravel roads, so I want the protection a set of bars would give. I was able to source a set of the Wunderlich bars from Ebay, so we will see how well they fit. It doesn't look as if I'll lose too much clearance, so here's hoping

Thanks Again!

What brand of bars are those pictured?

Those are

SW-Motech bars. Very nice, and I put these on after the Verholen covers failed to protect anything. One nice feature of these guards is they function nicely as highway pegs. You can rest your feet on them and be very comfortable. The also have no effect on lean angles.
