charging dead battery on k75rt

Hi Gang
Charged the battery and when its up to 14 volts or so and i hit the starter button I get a clicking sound under the tank. What are the steps on a 75rt to pull the tank and see or feel whats clicking, or is the battery just really dead.

The clicking is the starter relay. It is probably not the problem.

You probably have one of four problems:

Dirty ignition switch or dirty starter button contacts. This can be tested by testing the voltage at the top fuse with the fuse installed (there are openings on the back of the fuse where you can check the voltage), key on, kill switch on. If voltage is more than 1 volt lower than battery voltage, you need to disassemble and clean the switches.

Bad battery (not holding a deep charge, just a surface charge) This can be checked at many car parts stores or any shop. You need to have them do a load test on the battery. It only takes 30 seconds to do if you remove the battery and take it to them. Most places will not charge for this test.

Corroded or loose connections at the battery (check both terminals), at the transmission end of the negative cable (just above the shift lever), or to the starter itself. Check voltage at the starter.

You really need to learn to move the tank so that you can at LEAST annually check the coolant level AT THE RADIATOR CAP.

Remove seat.

Unplug 4 connector plug that runs to bottom of tank. This connector is at the right rear of the tank infront of the tool box. There will be several inches of pigtail left connected to the tank.

Remove two clips on posts at rear bottom corners of tank.
Lift the rear of the tank about 4 inches.

Look underneath the right rear of the tank about 8" from the rear. There will be two 1/4" diameter 1 1/2" long nipples comming down from the bottom of the tank. The forward one is the tank vent. The rear one is the gas cap rain drain. There will either be two hoses connected to those OR there will be a 1"x2" black plastic "cup" clipped to the frame right below them. If hoses, remove them from the nipples. When replacing, hose running toward the front of the bike connects to the front nipple.

Slide tank rearward without putting strain on the two high pressure fuel lines that are connected to the lower left front of the tank. You should be able to access the radiator cap without removing the fuel hoses.

To fully remove tank, remove fuel lines from left front of tank. A small amount of fuel (a couple of tablespoons) will come out, but will not continue to drain.
