average fuel consumption

2005 K1200LT
Can't get the AVERAGE FUEL CONSUMPTION to read correctly.
It will reset to 200 mpg and then read down to 16mpg.
The RESIDUALRANGE does not read out correctly also.
The computer "thinks" the bike is getting 16mpg, when in fact it is in the 44 mpg.

reset

Ted, I have tried to reset on the center stand, side stand, and going down the road, full tank, 3/4 tank. The gas gauge is working and the low fuel light comes correctly.

MPG not clearing

I have the same problem. Just purchased a 05 LT and have not been able to reset the MPG. Did you get an answer to your question?

MPG reset

No I have not. Tried all sorts of gas filling techniques, button pushing, cussing it. Dealer seems to be stumped also.
Bike still works great without it, that's what counts. Guess I really don't need it.

This was a known problem on some of the 05. BMW has a tsb that covers the installation of a small electronic part in the wiring box that fixes the problem. Unfortunately this part is no longer available acording to my dealer. My guess would be that the injection pulse signal is not getting taken high and not low enough. That would explain why they all go to 16 mpg. The chip that does the calculation thinks the injectors are firing continously. 16 mpg is probably the maximum displayable value. I have wondered if cleaning all the connections would help.
