1975 R90/6 Front Caliper removal

How do you remove the single front caliper on this bike ? Just remove the one vertical bolt under the hex cap ?

Is this correct ?

My front brake is dragging after application , so am going to rebuild the caliper and replace the hose . ( I've already rebuilt the MS which was leaking and was pretty rusty inside but cleaned up well )

Believe so, the caliper pivots on that bolt (actually a pin) as you apply the brakes. You will see that it is an eccentric pin that allows you to adjust the contact of the pad on the rotor. Should be a spring there if my memory serves me right. Also, when you take the pads out do not think of them wearing funny if they are tapered front to back. That is the way they are suppose to be so you have even contact and wear through their entire life.

The pinch bolt for the fork legs should be the right pitch to screw up into the bottom of the eccentric bolt. Once you do that, you have something to jerk on to pull the eccentric out. Then the caliper can be removed.

Kurt, I never knew that, I always just probed until I go the pin out. Thanks for the tip. :thumb

Thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. Once you have the hex nut out, put a flat blade screw driver rotate till you find as soft spot. Take a magnet, the kind that has an extended style when you loose a nut to bolt when working car/truck. Set it on the head and withdraw the pin.

Check your manual, or this site, for intstructions on aligning the brake pads with the eccentric bolt. If you haven't done that, it may alleviate the dragging.

Thanks !

Thank you all for your information . I now understand how the mechanism works to be able to take it apart . This will be a good winter project . Much appreciated .
