I've run the Tourance mostly for years and a few sets of TKC in betwee. Last fall I spooned on some Heidenau's and probably stick with them for a while. So far good tread wear, good all around traction.
No compromises for my GS as I rely on it to take me further off the beaten path than normal dual sport tires will allow.
Knobbies all the time for me, never know when I'll really need the traction to get to the best remote camp spot, or want to ride real fast through the desert would be just a couple of the many reasons I run knobs. Cheap, easily found at any bike dealer while traveling (18" rear mind you) and the ability to run low wire pressure for maximum traction would be a couple other reasons I run knobs.
Lower gearing and the ability to have 9.5 gallons of fuel on board doesn't hurt me either to get way out there and LOST.
Then again, I have fun with knobbies no matter the terrain on my GS.
