Red Mountain Pass - Million Dollar Highway - Colorado

I know many of you have ridden this gem. Yes? Or are aiming to do so? It is a renown thing. In September, on a weekday, with the sun sinking in the west, it can gratefully be a fairly empty thing, and an even more magical thing...

Three pics from the preceding vid clip. Distractions here, in this lane, can result in "big air"...

Wow! :thumb

By the way, is this one in your book? I've been going through the book picking out rides for next summer. Great fun!

Great road, was on it earlier this month. From the same stretch of road as Farson's first picture, just looking the opposite direction...

Had the joy of watching a skilled truck driver on it as well...

Sure, he went wide a few times, but he could see pretty far up the road when he did.

I unfortuneately got the book 3 days before we left for Colorado. Will read it cover to cover before next summer's trip..... and see what all I missed.:dance

Nicely done! This really brought back great memories for me but had no pictures to share with friends. Thanks for posting.

Everyone, thanks much.

Dan... Put this, and the South West Region on your list for next summer!

Earache... You parked on one of the wider spots, but did you lose a saddle bag over the side?

and on this video - sure sounds like a KTM, maybe a 950 or 990 Adventure? Music by?

What was the soundtrack on the first video?

And which video camera was used (e.g. a GoPro HD or ContourHD)?

Hey Rob... Thanks for embedding the Guanella Pass video! I tried everything to get the YouTube video window to appear in the post, EXCEPT the YouTube Embed code!

The first Red Mountain Pass video has accompaniment from David Arkenstone's "Acquiring Satellites".

The Guanella Pass video (Yes, a 990ADV) has accompaniment from Kacey Johansing's "Angel Island". Now, you're in luck here. I signed up two years ago for the free One-Track-Mind's music service where they deposit a link to a completely free MP3 in your email inbox 4-5x a week. Here is the Angel Island page where you can fetch her sweet voice... http://one-track-mind.com/kacey-johansing-angel-island/ On this page you can also sign up for the free MP3 service.

BTW, the YouTube rmridervideo (Rocky Mountain Rider) channel here... http://www.youtube.com/user/rmridervideo?feature=mhee contains all the videos, and is simply an alternative to the free site hosting all the book's videos here... http://rmridervideo.com

The cam for the above recordings is the GoPro HD. I tend to use it when sitting upright. When I'm leaning forward on a sporting bike, like the K1200S, I appreciate the wider angle and nicer/sleeker form of the ContourHD. For both cams I mount them on the lower left side of the helmet. Cams on top of the helmet are too extreme. Helmet p-o-v's offer many advantages versus hard mounting to a bike. Here's the ContourHD on the K1200S while following a friend on a spirited Multistrada 1200 up to Echo Lake below Mt. Evans...
