'You can say what you want about the South, but I almost never hear of anyone wanting to retire to the North.
As for statistics, anybody who really wants to know can look at attendance by state for the last several rallies. If you want to refine the statistics then standardize by MOA memberhip by state. I'm not sure that the 500 mile number is precise, but do know that predominantly easterners go to eastern rallies, westerners go to western rallies, midwesterners sometimes will go either direction, and some of us go wherever it is. Voni has not missed one since 1984. I missed Moodus due to a job change and ZERO vacation days right about then.
It is not the absent that concern me very much. In the past 25 years I have heard almost every conceivable excuse why persons said they were not coming to a specific rally or rally site. It is the safety and convenience of those who come that are my priorities.

Not being privy to much of the information one can only surmise.
Personally, I'm not the rallier type.
When I lived in NY I only went to Americade twice since 1983.
Crowds don't do it for me.
I went to Redmond because I could. And I wanted to say I've been to one. And to meet some folks...
It's an impressive feat.
I agree w/ Paul's assessment on distance. I'd ride to a rally to participate in the seminars and shows... Not to ride the local roads. Probably as I'm spoiled where i live.
I seriously thought of PA but decided 4-5 days of road to spend 3-4 days and then repeat the ride turned me off. Not the ride. The Gas Prices.
I'll wait and see where '13 happens. And I'll tell ya... If it ain't in an hour range of the North Cascades yer really doing the membership a disservice. (heh heh)
Let's just keep filling up this map!
