Suggestions for Midwest MIssissippi River Tour

Even though I could spend time riding in the mountains close to home I'd like to check out the midwest.

I have eight nights in mid September. Plan to head to WV, then ride along the Ohio River, and then cut across to the Mississippi. Then, head north up to MN.

I would like suggestions on rides, river towns and places to stay. Haven't decided about motels and camping, or just motels. May wait until just before I leave to see what the extended weather pattern looks like. Am hoping that September (barring any hurricane remnants) will be clear and crisp.

Thanks!

Here are some links you might want to research on the Great River Road and the Ohio Scenic Byway;

Official Site of the Great River Road

The Great River Road

The Great River Road - Road Trip USA

Each state has a website detailing the Great River Road - ie Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc

Also the Ohio River Scenic Byway

Hope this helps in your planning process.

I have done segments of the Great River Road in Minnesota and Wisconsion. I would like to run the entire GRR but I would like a month in fall to do that and then still be able to get back to the Pacific NW before the winter weather hits the Rockys.

For the GRR just follow these signs. I then used a more detailed map to follow the river even more closely (ie Delorme, etc)

Looks like a nice ride.

Enjoy.
