I am looking for any suggestion to make this trip more enjoyable. It seems to be 540 miles of mostly straight not very exciting roads. The last trip I took 24 across Ill hoping to find a different route. I stay away from interstates whenever i can. i will be making this trip around memorial day weekend.

I take il24 from Peoria area to Shipshewanna area to visit a friend. Not a bad way to go.Yes it is straight, but all the roads in Illinois are.Ed

Where is Demonies Iowa ?

I cannot locate on my maps.... or Google for that matter.

If you intended to type Des Moines, I'd ride Route 30 across Illinois and Iowa.

One of the original transcontinental Highways - it offers a mix of mostly 2 and some 4 lane sections across the rolling terrain of Eastern Iowa. Rt 24 in Illinois as well as the Scenic River Road are good. Many river towns, including Quincy, Ill. are worth stopping and seeing.

Try the lincoln cafe in Mt vernon Ia, on the lincoln hwy
