I would like some suggestions for reasonably priced lodging ($50/night range) in the following towns (motel/hotel/etc-not camping this trip):

Clarkston/Lewiston
Enterprise/Joseph
Baker City/North Powder/Union/LaGrande.

Tentative Route:

one of the roads you plan to ride - FS 39 - is closed. they had a huge storm there this spring and the river washed major sections of the road right off the side of the hill.

it's the southern end, above Halfway.

i camped the entire time i stayed in HC this summer, so no specific hotel info, sorry.

if you can ride gravel, i highly recommend a trip out to Hat Point.

Backroad:

There are recent threads on this area. I suggest you do an advanced search in Ride Reports using the following words: "hell's canyon", "enterprise", "joseph", and "fs 39".

Have a good trip, and welcome to the Forum.

Thanks for the heads up on the road closure. I guess I will go back and work on my route some more.

Looks like after Enterprise and Joseph I will have to kick out to LaGrande and then head south.

A lot of folks on one of my other moto lists stay at these 2 places. For a good breakfast you can go to the Oregon trail restaurant right there on the premises.

Bridge Street Inn‎-
134 Bridge Street, Baker City, OR‎ - (541) 523-6571‎

Oregon Trail Motel & Rstnrt‎-
211 Bridge Street, Baker City, OR‎ - (541) 523-5844

I've stayed at this place, it's inexpensive and at the time needed some updating but I'm not picky.
Knights Inn‎-
2205 Broadway Street, Baker City, OR‎ - (541) 523-6324‎

Enjoy the ride. You might want to head over Anthony lakes, they were doing some work on the road a few weeks ago so I didn't bother but it should be done by now. Great views.

I stayed at the Union Hotel in Union the end of July. Hotel somewhat rustic...ready for restoration....but was comfortable. Nice restaurant within walking distance. With tax charge for the room was $61.

Have a great ride. Beautiful country.

Dick and Brian,

Thanks for the recommendations. I will look into those places. Since FR39 is closed I'm reworking my route.

The first night I plan to stay in the Clarkston/Lewiston area and then head south to Enterprise/Joseph. Second night at the Union Hotel might be a good choice.

Then work my way south and stay in Baker City the third night.

Again thank you for the leads.
