Mount St. Helens - East Side Roads

On my way up to the Spokane Rally a few years ago, I did the Wind River Hwy. from Hood River north to 25 which runs along the east side of Mt. St. Helens. Some great twisty, forest roads with great views of Mt. St. Helens along the way. 25 takes you into Randle where you can go east toward Mt. Rainier. Volcanoes rock!

This is good advice, it's a good through road when it's open. Backcountry can have a lot of snow, so it takes awhile for it to melt.
Here's a link to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest road condition report. Always a very good idea to check with them the same day you intend to travel. Don't ask how I know why this is such a good idea!

According to the website as of today June 29, FS 25 (the main road on the east side of Mt. St. Helens) is open, but some construction continues. Likewise the road to Windy Ridge.
I really appreciate the FS note to use caution to avoid getting stuck etc. since these roads are NOT PATROLLED. I see that as a positive.
So, let's jam FS 25 after Redmond, and hope for clear weather.

We did this trip last summer
Highly recommended - the best riding in Washington State! Lots of other vehicles on sunny summer weekends, but we've never seen any law enforcement on FS 25 and FS 99.

I got my SPOT to give me that fuzzy and warm feeling. You ridin' down in the sidehack rig, Dave? I gotta GS, so "I can speed o'er hill or prarie..." (it says in the ads)

Goin' for a ride with the cousins today in Amish country in the convertible as a warmup for Thursday's ride. (I'm just SO good with kids.)
