Anyone know of a guide to good small motels in Canada - Ontario to be specific?

I won't be very helpful I think, but when we travel coast to coast we move through the U.S. Motel deals and tax rates that work for us. Sad because we would like to stay in Canada. However, we can get two nights in the U.S. for every Canadian overnight. If money matters then that's the truth; if money does not matter all that much then most Canadian motels are somewhat a case of Corporate Socialism..... all the same....like the gas eh? Oh well. Visit Ontario though, it is a wonderful and very scenic Province with so many wonderful things to see. - Bob

I just go to Trip Advisor and put in the town and get a list of places.

Sorry that I can't help with Canadian motels, but there is an alternative. I frequently stay in hostels, both in Canada and the U.S. Another alternative in Canada is university and college residences. I wish I could find similar accommodation in the US,

Many thanks for the responses so far. And Paul, I travel on 402, 401 and 403 every year on my way back east from my Canadian trip out to MN (burned an exhaust valve and ended up at "Jim's Lunch" in Princeton, ON for about six hours a few years ago). Keep the great ideas coming.

Ontario Motels

Try AAA. They publish tourbooks which include and rate hotels, motels, restaurants and points of interest. We get them at the local office but you might try AAA.com.

I don't know about Ontario, but the visitor's center in British Columbia has a great free book of accomodations that lists by city and a rough price guide.

I'd check there.

That's a good one Paul. Although Mary and I have not used that resource (hostels and univ.), I have done that in the past both here and in UK/Europe. Good way to meet folks also..... usually bicyclists. - Bob
