My sons and I are going to be camping in the Lanesboro area and I know there is some nice riding in the area. Can anyone recommend rides or routes that are a must when in the area?

The road you will be on (16) is one of my favorite roads, and I ride it many times a year. Take it from Lanesboro all the way to the Mississippi. Great curves and scenery. When you get to Rushford ride up to the park at the top of the hill there and take a look out over the valley.
Then head north up the Mississippi on one side and down the other.
Then run 16 again in the other direction.

County roads

--Almost my backyard --

Go west out of Lanesboro on 16 a mile or so.
turn left onto cty 21 - a curvy uphill run
at the top take a left on 12 heading east
continue until you get to state hiway 43
take a left on 43

Alternate 1
take a right on cty 10
you will end up in Houston
return to Lanesboro on 16

Alternate 2
take a left on cty 10 - a mile or so further
go until it reaches cty 12 and take a right
(it may turn into cty 23 before 12)
take 21 when you get to it and go back down the hill you started on.

There are many more routes like this.

enjoy, maybe I'll see you there/

ride

Here's a longer route that could be broken up in pieces.

From just east of Houston, head south on 76
thru Caledonia to the Iowa border
go a few more miles, take the first (?) left onto Iowa A26
follow this to Miss. river
go north on 26 to Minnesota
take cty 5 to west (if it is paved)
else go several more miles and take Cty 14 west to Caledonia
then take Cty 3 back east to Brownsville (on 26)
in Brownsville, turn left onto cty 18 to Hokah
take 16 back to 26 and the river
go north on 26 to LaCrescent
from there take cty 25 west (maybe hard to find)
I can't remember the exact way -ask direction?
watch out on 25, as there is a very sharp 90" left turn along the way
at Houston, take 76 north to cty 26 and turn left to Rushford
go thru Money Creek campground where the Moto Guzzi rally
was flooded out several years ago
then 16 back to Lansboro.

Get out of MN! WI is sweet! I suggest you ride down the river to Marquette, IA, and have lunch at the Marquette Cafe. Ride over to WI. Southwest WI is the best of the area. Seriously consider one night in Lanesboro and the next night in WI - Wyalusing State Park is nice

Thanks for the input!!

Thanks for all the input, we're heading out today for the weekend, hope the weather cooperates, looking forward to the time with my sons.
