What are you listening to today?

Thanks Rich, Patty Loveless was a regular in my cassette player in my Jeep. On occasion I would let a bud play Metallica :rocker
Having spent several weeks in Appalachia last summer, including a few passes through Harlan county, those pictures are powerful. Some could be from current times as well.
More Patty!!

I heard this on the radio today: why haven't I heard it before?

Harry

Me thinks he may have had some inspiration here:

J. D. : “I actually didn't write "You're Only Lonely" with Roy [Orbison] in mind, but for a very beautiful singer and songwriter who, it seemed to me, worried herself into knots with language inappropriate to her real issue. She was, like many artists, simply insecure about being alone. The song was written to reassure this wonderful woman that she was not, probably had never been, and would not likely be alone unless she wanted it. ... when Waddy Wachtel and I were arranging songs for the 1979 album ... and he was trying to find a song of mine faster than a dirge and asked, as only he can something like: "What the hell, Jake, don't you have anything like, you know, a single?" I said, "Well, there's this little rockabilly thing but it has no bridge and no third verse. I played it for him. He looked at me like I was mental and I said, "But there's no third verse!" He said, "So sing the first verse again!" So I did.”

Man! I must be gettin' to be an old fart. I really liked Pokey LaFarge; never heard of 'em before, but the 'Zon has lots of their music for sale. This thread has cost me more than some tool threads elsewhere!

Never heard of "Electro Swing" before, but I recall Mr. Scruff as having a sample music track on a prior version of Windows. There are quite a few compilations of this genre on the u-tube; some songs I like better than others. But it was pretty good to listen to whilst doing the 12 k service on my RTW.

Tecumseh Valley by Townes Van Zandt, with Nancy Griffith

+1

Just about anything by Townes is :clap

I was listening to him a couple days ago and on one track (Mr. Mudd & Mr. Gold - Live) he started out by telling a joke that he had heard from Jerry Jeff Walker.

A drunk is staggering down the sidewalk and a cop stops him.
The drunk says, "Officer, someone stole my car!"
The Officer says, "Where was it?"
The drunk says, "Right here on the end of my key."
The Officer says, "Let's go down to the precinct and report it. But first, you better zip up your pants."

The drunk looks down and says, "Oh man, they got my girl too!"

Led Zeppelin - Communication Breakdown. Featuring 8 yr old Yoyoka on drums. Really cool!

Sometimes I miss listening to "A Prairie Home Companion." The feller that took over has a new show "Live From Here" (Chris Thile) and it doesn't always appeal to me. But, there are times when there is a guest that gives a entertaining performance. Rachael Price, of Lake Street Dive, could sing 'most anything and it would sound pretty good. I particularly liked this song on Live From Here ...
