What are you listening to today?

Some years back I went to a concert held at the Columbus (Ohio) zoo and the concert featured the Chieftains with Great Big Sea. I'd never heard of Great Big Sea, but they really put on a wonderful concert as did the Chieftains. I just found this recording of a Great Big Sea 20th anniversary concert. I was reminded of how energetic and outstanding their concerts were.

The Chieftans are great and all the lads in Great Big Sea are friends of mine. I run into Allan Doyle quasi regularly around town.

As for what I'm listening to, this album was the one the put me on to modern African music and however many years later it is still one of my favourites. Sadly Ali Farka Touré passed away much too young. His son is playing great music too. We had him playing top tracks from Deezer on Sonos for most of the day yesterday. Ry Cooder has done some excellent work saving various genres of music as we saw in Buena Vista Social Club which was a great movie too.

I like the studio version...

Nice version of Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay:

Sorry for the commercial at the end!

I heard this on the radio this morning:

Nice song, nice video...

I'd never heard of Colter Wall before. I might listen to this again on my way out west to the big rally -

Similar experience, dang! it was 22 years ago!
It was at the Guinness Fleadh in San Jose.
You are absolutely right about GBS, check out their Great Big DVD!

There were 5 stages, it wasn't crowded, and was able to catch most of the bands. The stage that GBS performed on was in a tent that wound up packed with people by the end of their set.

Started the day with a cup o Black Flag coffee & Minutemen, sweetened with some Blind Owl & Atomic Kid.
Probably finish it with some Sarah Vaughan, Cal Tjader or possibly Estrada Brothers.
