AMA vintage Days also had a great "Vintage Trials" and a "Vintage Motocross" event
on the 330 acres Mid-Ohio Racetrack complex.

Just thinking about Racing bikes racing
around the 15-turn, 2.4-mile road course,
the racing paddock with racers hurrying for the next race,
motocrossers on the dirt course,
trials bikes in the woods,
motorcycles and parts at the AMA swap meet,
the many shows and seminars
and street riders parked and touring the site,
many tent and RV campers

It was a lot to take in for a 3 day weekend.

Next year the www.ahrma.org will be doing this type of event
at Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Moto Guzzi Riders Rally

August 3 - 5, 2012
at Lake Joy Campground.

All brands are welcome.
Registration is $35 before July 1, 2012 and $45 at the gate.

and deluxe continental breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

As always, Wisconsin's finest refreshments, including soft drinks, will flow from the artesian taps.
The rally fee also includes tent camping Friday and Saturday.

Lake Joy is located in the heart of Wisconsin's "driftless" region - the area not flattened by the glacier.
It is spectacularly scenic riding territory.

Here's what we were dealing with. 2.5 inches of rain in a couple of days, on top of already wet ground. This is the rain gauge in Crowbait's front yard.

Madwrench took this photo of me on the ride
on the KLX250
kinda answers why I had a harder time with the slimey hills than the other KLX250s

What is the old saying . . .
don't weigh the same as the CC of the motor. . .
at least for slimey hill climbing

Supposedly the slipperiest substance known to man is
wet ice on wet ice......I beg to differ.

I have never been on anything as greasy as those hills.
Hell, oil on a road race track has better traction!!

. . .not that muddy, but really damn slippery!

But dang I had fun! This ride will be a blast with drier weather.

Great properties to ride on, thanks to all the land owners!

The road route was perfect

I was busy trying to do the hills and I didn't have much time to use the camera.

+++++++++++++++++++++++Madison Motorcycle Club Dual Sport Ride

There are three Fall season dual-sport venues in Wisconsin:
Kettle Moraine (southeastern),
Bucky(Cross Plains, WI southwest)
& with Wabeno (northern Wisconsin) also having a spring DS ride.

Wisconsin Fall rides are popular as the corn fields make good connector routes between dirt sections

Always good to see the ladies out roosting it, too
(Editor note: These two photos of the gals were taken
by my fellow Madison Motorcyle Club member "Madwrench".

BTW, the MMC is one of the very oldest AMA Clubs in the USA

"the ladies roosting it too" I think the ratio of me getting roosted as opposed to roosting was about 20 to 1 :D

This was only my seventh organized dual sport event, but by far my favorite.

Hey- many thanks to the boys who helped push my butt up the sweet quarter mile mud slide. I wanted to thank you again in person at dinner, but because I did a little too much pre-Bucky celebrating on Friday night, I never made it back to the VFW after the ride for the post-Bucky celebration. Thanks again though!

Early 50's Chevy pickup truck, restored worth about 5 G

Cost to restore this early Chevy pickum up truck - about 5 G

Seeing an early 50's Chevy pickup truck on the trail . . . Priceless

sideshow said:
I only really pulled out my camera when I got stuck, which was a shame. Glad Klasjm got a shot of the '54 Chevy (only made that grille for a year, but could be an early '55). Beautiful colors in that old thing.

Lots of fun on the greasy hills. I was going to give Matt's bike a shot up this hill that I was at the top of, ready for pictures, and promptly crashed it with the gobbed-up mud on the tire. Anyways, nice finish to the hill with a stander:

Spin to win!

Lots of this on the hill. Actually watched about 8 bikes take the hill. 2 made it all the way up. The difference between the other 6 (and me) was how far they made it up before having to do The Walk.

madwrench said:
BTW, re: the pics on of the old Chevy pickup. That truck belongs to Speedy Pete (who did the MC duties after dinner). Someone asked me about the truck, and I told them it was Speedy's, and his wife Rachel, who happened to be standing nearby said, "WHAT?!"
Oops.:D

I figured the truck was WAY to nice to be junked!!!:D

It rained and rained the week before the Bucky, one of the club members that put it on told me that if he could have called it off on Friday he would have. Too many things had already been put in motion though, so on it went. I think some of the club members were dissapointed because they had to cut some of the off road sections out, and the rest of the off road sections were really muddy in spots. They knew what a great trail they had before all the rain , and I think it was disappointing to present a trail that was only a part of what they had put together. To me it was awesome the way it was ! I can only imagine what it must have been like before it was shortened, and before some of it got so muddy. BTW the shortened version was still 90 miles long, and I thought some of the mud was fun. The route consisted of woods sections linked together by twisty Wisconsin backroads. Gotta say, some of those twisty backroads were almost as fun as riding in the woods. A big thank you goes out to the land owners who graciously allowed us to ride their land, and the folks at the Madison Motorcycle Club who worked so hard to put the ride on. All the money made from the Bucky was donated to the American Legion In Cross Plains Wi, (where the event was held Chilly wet morning.
Sound check station. Muddy.
