"clunk" when putting on centerstand

I'm in the process of methodically (and slowly) going through a maintenance regime for a '77 r100s I purchased last fall. I've left the front end for last. Whenver I place the bike on the centerstand I get a good "clunk" sound from up front. Is there a typical culprit for this type of sound that I should keep an eye for?

Thanks.

Hello; Could it be the fork legs "topping out"? I have heard a clunking sounds under the same situation, If that is what is causing the noise, it's not serious enough to so anything about. I'd rather have the noise then have the sliders come right off.

clunking noise

I would also consider looking at the steering head bearings also. The stress load on the front end changes when the center stand comes up.

I can't believe I used the word also twice in the same sentence also. JAS
