Saying goodbye to an old friend

Dakota will be undergoing euthanasia in T minus 8 hours 25 minutes. He's led a full life of eighteen years.
Deaf, blind and stricken with Lyme disease , he can no longer negotiate steps or the 8 inches into the cage.

Really sorry to hear that! If he's made it 18 years, it sounds like you've given him a good life.

Thanks. He's set the highest standard for any pet I've ever seen or met.
    Just pure love.

Jeez Randall, I'm so sorry.. I have been there as well.. One of the saddest moments of my life was when I had to put to sleep my beloved english setter for the very same reasons.. Nothing you can do except cry....

I really feel for you and your friend. I too went through that recently with my Golden Retriever. It takes a bigger person to identify that your canine friend' quality of life is not fun anymore.
Through the years I noticed how some veterinarians will want to put a pet on medication and surgery. In my heart that is all fine for us and makes us feel good but, it prolongs the animals suffering.
When Dakota enters heaven, I am sure he will meet up with Emma. He'll be able to chase rabbit's and have an endless supply of treats. You have my condolences.

    Sincerely
    Pat Carol

    Unhappy so sad for you....

Words of comfort are hard to reach you when you are saying good bye to such a faithful old friend.

I believe that the first time a wolf came into the firelight and let man touch him something profound happened in the history of earth. Dogs and man are the only two species that share such a bond that runs so deep.

Although we take for granted the sacrifices made and the depth of the devotion our dogs have for us, they never stop caring. When I lost my friend four years ago one of her last acts on this earth was to lick my hand. Despite the pain she was in she took the time to tell me how much she cared about me, one last time.

In their eyes we must be like gods in that we do not seem to age while there life spins by so fast. For all of us who are blessed with good dogs we should tell them how much we care for them when we get home from work tonight.

Farewell to Dakota. I hope his passing is peaceful, and you find comfort in doing whats right for him. I know that when he finds heaven there will be a pretty black dog with white paws named Tuesday, there to greet him. She is very friendly and loves to run and play. She is waiting for her friend who will be there someday...

So sorry to hear that Randall.

Losing a pet sucks. Take comfort in the very fullest life of 18 years. That is remarkable for a dog.

    Sorry for your loss.
