We've been enjoying a brief period of extremely nice weather
lately. It's weird in the trees are green but the debris is as
heavy as late fall.
I stopped a few blocks from home to drop off the dry cleaning
and have a cup of coffee before setting out. The street the
coffee place is one becomes a Farmer's Market on Saturday.
Very often, there's live music. Today, the 3Amigo's performed
folk music. I wish they sold CD's. The couple of songs I listened
to were full of wonderful harmony.
Flower and vegetable vendors abound.

One last stop and only because the samples were soooo
good.
This last stop fouled everything up. Ended up with several
selections of this wonderful cheese. Kbasa, if you're in the hood
you should swing by the Spring Hill Cheese Company.
A quick stop at home and I am off.
Today takes me to New Almaden. History buffs will recognized
the name as the township where Quicksilver was mined. Many
of the creeks in the area are still affected by the runoff and
marked as "unsafe" on the many crossings. New Almaden is
located South of San Jose yet seems hundreds of miles away.
I stopped over looking the reservoir at one of the few places to
pull over on this dead-end road.
The town is a sleepy little place full of victorian era homes that
line the streets.
After a very brief tour, I was back to the road that would take me
through Uvas Canyon and past the many Santa Clara County
reservoirs.
Mckean Road is popular with the Harley crowd. And for good
reason. It's a nice relaxed road that allows you to enjoy some
of the rural areas of metropolitan San Jose area.
Soon, the road connects to Highway 152 which leads to the
coast.
Now, when I left, it was well on the way to 70+ degrees with
not a cloud in the sky. Hold that thought.
152 winds past the Mt. Madonna Inn. Some might remember this
from my "Phil's Seafood" report. As it passes the Inn, you're
treated to a beautiful view of the Watsonville area.
After gassing up in Watsonville, I decided to check out a couple
of the state parks in the area. I stopped at Sunset Beach to
look over the camping facilities. What's nice about this place is
that it's small and attracts mostly tent or small self contained
RV's. Plus, it's at the beach.
This road leads down to the beach. And yes, that is fog and it
is misty. Remember what I said about the temps leaving home?
Next to the park are fields of flowers and strawberries. Hmmm...
I chose to head up the coast through Santa Cruz and home.
When it's hot in the Valley, people head to the beach. It was
reasonably nice in Santa Cruz but let's just say I should have
brought something to wear under my 'stich. Stopped briefly
for a cup of coffee at the Whale City Cafe in Davenport before
heading back over the hill and home.
I'll definetly make New Almaden and Quicksilver Park destination
rides in the next few weeks. Lots of very local history. And, I
learned a very important lesson. Take extra clothing lest you
freeze along the way
