Post a pic of your Airhead

77/78 r100s

Hi hope all goes well with your bike , as regards being one of the first RS,s I belive it is an r100S of 1977 or 1978 vintage, its hard to tell after a lot of years, but it does say r100s on the engine, also if the paint is original it may be a 1978 r100S motorsport or an even rarer r100 SRS,an S with an RS motor, also 1977 RS,s have blue brake calipers r100s are mostly silver or black, anyhoo, looks like you got a good bike lots of luck, Jimmy:thumb,

Hi Jimmy,

I've been doing some research and I didn't know about the BMW R100 SRS model that's interesting!!

Here is what I found out so far. The bike has a clean title and the frame and engine comes states it's an BMW R100RS. I've check the vin number and its a later model sold in 1977. Now the last owner pick up the bike back in 2000 and was riding it for 10 years and decided to store it for 5 years. I found it last summer and I've been going through bike now. Cleaning up the wiring, replacing old parts, fluids etc. I'm going to keep the S fairing on the currently it's damaged and I need to repair the fiber glass bolt holder. I'm fixing the fairing soon and will leave the original paint alone too.
The front brake calipers are blue tint but its faded but you can still see blue tint on the brake caliper on the inside.
I put back the badges back to R100RS since I found the correct badges.

The fairing the paint job matches and I kept scratching my head because I couldn't figure out why someone would change a RS to S. It seems all the parts of the bike is original or at least has old parts from the 70's.
How would you know if it's a BMW R100SRS? and if it's how much do you think it's worth?

Here are some new photos with the original seat back on.

77/78 s

Hi again im sure there,s a lot of guys who know a lot more that I, but I was riding bmw,s through the said period ,in Britian (N Ireland) ,so am going from memory, one way to check for an early RS motor is to remove the rear engine bolt and the exaust clamp on it should be a stamp either 40 for a 38 mm exaust (S)or 42 for a 40 mm exaust (RS),the SRS came in 1978, which was an S with an RS motor fitted, in motor sport white, I seem to remember a story that a police bike order was cancelled ,Austrialia i I think and bmw sold them as a special , Jimmy
PS, hi again just noticed another thread re motorsport,s ,good news you have a good bike, best of luck Jimmy

Just have to have pinstripes on my airheads.... Couldn't afford new paint, so just had Mitch Kim stripe over the old faded Mystic red... Got my parts back Friday and had a dry evening to ride her to The One Moto Show.... This bike is so comfy and quick....

It is always great to see people rescue these motorcycles. You know you have to post a picture of you riding that bike with that helmet. :)
